ResScan working on Mac (with Bootcamp)

Post by TalonNYC » Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:31 am

Hi folks:

Sharing that I was able to get ResScan running on my MacBook Pro by using BootCamp. My BC partition is Windows 7 Pro x64 with all Bootcamp services installed.
ResScan is the 3.13 version from the various links from Uncle_Bob (I did not use the one in his very latest post, but the one right before that - due to timing).

Here's what I did:

Install Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit) using the Bootcamp Assistant in MacOS x (I'm on 10.6.7)
After installing Windows, make sure to run the Bootcamp installer on your MacOS system disk to load all the drivers.
Run both Windows Update and Apple Software Update until there are no updates left for either
Install ResScan - do NOT install *any* of the readers, you don't need them.
Take the SD card from your S9 (sorry folks, this doesn't work for the S8 or earlier) and move the small switch on the side to the locked position. This isn't strictly required, but is a safety measure I strongly recommend.
Insert the card into the multi-reader on your Mac (these are on both the iMac and MacBook/MB Pro) It will not go all the way into the machine, this in normal. Push until you feel resistance, then stop.
Start ResScan
ResScan will recognize the card and offer to download the data, along with setting up a new patient if you haven't dont that already.
That's it, you can now follow the other tutorials and posts in this forum.

Happy CPAPing!

Can you tell the newbies at what step during the download that they have to choose "detailed" data so they can see all the reports & graphs and not just the summary data? Many newbies miss this and I don't know when the wording comes up and what it says exactly.

you bet!

When you insert an SD card, or (if you inserted it before starting the software) the ResScan system sees a card, it will ask you if you want to download data. On this page, there is a pre-checked box for "Summary Data" - leave that as is.
Beneath that is a checkbox for other data, select it and use the drop-down box below to choose All Details for All Sessions.

You can select the checkbox near the bottom that allows you to set this as your default, so that you will always download all data.

Thank you,

I have copied your instructions so I can offer to newbies. Often even with Windows software they miss the step about downloading the detail data and changing the default. Since I don't use ResMed machine I didn't know what choices were shown and when to alter. Now I do.

Indeed, you'd think they'd have made the All Details settings the default for providers - it's a very oddly managed software tool.

ResMed is moving toward hosted online solutions, so I guess they don't have a vested interest in making the full-client software all that robust =(

It is the same with EncorePro. Which is to be expected since it is designed for office use. At least there is the patient version EncoreViewer but at $99 rather overpriced for what it is.

Since DMEs or providers are mainly interested in summary detail to get compliance hours, the defaults are toward that end. DMEs don't usually do the detailed reports unless someone requests it for some reason.

DMEs are the customers and we are simply the end users.

Agreed there. I suppose that's why manufacturers are putting so much info in the LCD screens now, so that patients have some minor clue as to what's going on since the DME's and docs won't tell them.

Yeah, just a little information to placate us. At least ResMed offers enough data on screen to get a semblance of an idea what is going on.
Respironics on screen data is next to nothing.
No breakdown of events. We get only a 7 and 30 day AHI average and percent of time in Large Leak. Pitiful.
Averages are easily screwed with and the Large Leak has to be enormous before it gets logged on the LED screen.
way before that large leak shows up can be enough leak to mess with therapy and data but with only the 7 or 30 day average to go by, can't tell much.
While better than nothing, not by much. After I got the software I never bothered with the on screen data.
