White Filter Alternative

Post by freshair » Wed Mar 02, 2011 7:06 am

I would like to change my white filter once a week rather than twice a month, does anyone know of another filter material that will perform the same but is less expensive than the white ones ? Tks--FA

They can get expensive for sure. My DME charges more than 50% of prices listed for them on CPAPAuction. I pretty much always order them from one of the online stores that sell through the auction site. Last ones I got for my M-Series A/Flex had 6 white filters for about 14$. If anyone knows of any other places with even cheaper ones please let us know!

Check the home building store! Take along one of your filters then go to the furnace filter department......compare furnace filters to your cpap filter, when you find one that is comparbly close, buy it. Take it home and cut it up to the right size, now you have a ton of filters, you can change then daily if you want.

Since EVERY breath you take during the night comes thru that filter, I'm not sure this is a good place to scrimp! Look for the lowest price, sure...but substituting FURNACE FILTERS???

I'd bet even the finest furnace filter doesn't come close to a white CPAP in terms of micron rating. And it's not something you can judge by comparing how they look.

Linc
I got my info from Snoredog on the furnace filters, he said "3m Filtrete furnace filter (purple one)."
I have not tried it, but when I run out of my current stash of filters, I'm going to look into it. Others have used air conditioning filter material too.
Cheers

Just for chuckles I placed an order for (2) for a total of $6.98.

The shipping costs were over $20.00, and were not discountable unless you applied for an Amazon VISA card.

I backed out of that order very quickly.

Yeah, I found the similar situation with multiple quantity.
Trick would be to find a large quantity and get hit with one S & H.
Or find one that will not bust a person for multiple quantities in one order. Quite a while back I found such a deal.
Got 12 filters, new 6' white premium hose and with the S& H came to less than $18.

Just gotta watch close. Haven't looked on Ebay though. Might be some deals there.

Course if gas keeps going up it might be cheaper to pay the S&H

If gas goes up, the S&H will go up, too.

Changing filters before they need to be changed is a waste of time, money and landfills. Filters work even better when they get dirty. (As they get dirty they remove even smaller sized trash from the airstream.) They only need to be changed because as they do their job, they restrict the air flow, when this happens the machine and air runs hotter, that's why they need changing. Unless you are living in a Coal Mine, you would be better off cleaning the area of dirt & dust, if you are living in a coal mine, move out. Jim

If you live in a coal mine, your biggest breathing problems probably aren't from OSA...

I had an RSGPT suggest this and said that he uses the furnace filters cut to size for family member machines.

See? Always a good tidbit of info to be gleaned. Thanks to Nan...and Snoredog, of course. You can bet I will be trying the 3m filters....
