His health is better than mine, with the exception of his lousy hearing.
His doctor visits and labs are very good--even last fall's prostate biopsy.
He is as strong, sharp, and ornery as most men 20 years younger.
We make each other laugh frequently. He keeps me young.
I still pester him to use the pap.
Then I am not sure what the problem is and why you continue to pester him to use it. I mean no offense but could you be jealous that he gets away with not using it and you don't? By the way, I wouldn't blame you if you were.

Maybe she just want the added years she will have to pester him. The wife and I bander back as and forth. It keeps things alive, by knowing what buttons to push it shows you care. Jim

I count on my wife to take care of me, like I took care of her when it was needed.

49er: I know he is likely to live longer with than without.

CF,

The question I would have is if your husband's apnea is being taken care of by sleeping on his side and it sounds like from your description of his functionality that it is, why would cpap necessarily prolong his life? Is there a study that shows exactly how much improvement someone would get who has mild apnea?

If I recall, the studies that showed that the machine prolonged life were for people with moderate and severe apnea. But I am not 100% sure.

Would you feel better if he were to have a sleep study without the machine to see exactly what his AHI and O2 levels were?

He still has apnea, especially when he falls asleep on his recliner.
Sometimes he wakes with a headache, probably due to the apnea.
No, it does NOT take care of it completely.

Hmm, now I see why you are concerned. Having headaches are not good.

I would not try any of the listed options. I have used CPAP and/or BiPap for perhaps 28 years and though it is a bit of nuisance I am confident that I tolerate it far better than any of those choices.

The Alaxo Stent appears to be a cure for apnea. However, there is no timeline for FDA approval in the United States. The company claims they are seeking approval. No evidence of that. Given the impact to the multibillion dollar industry has been established to address sleep, health, and mental issues resulting from the impacts of apnea one has to wonder how much economics plays into the FDA approval process.

FDA Approval means it's safe.....doesn't guarantee that it will work

Fda approval doesn't mean it's safe it means the company gave the fda enough money

I thought the stent sounded the most interesting of the 3 until I followed the link and saw it doesn't reduce AHI enough to be worthwhile. I'd stick with CPAP for now.

This is the real answer, the FDA, approves many things that aren't safe, or good for you. Only time will tell the safety of products, life in general is a crap shoot, at worse larceny is involved. Jim
