CPAP ALTERNATIVE!!

Post by scb2thdoc » Mon Jan 17, 2011 3:28 pm

If you are unhappy with your CPAP machine, there is an alternative to this loud, uncomfortable sleep apnea device.

A Oral Appliance made by an experienced sleep medicine dentist can be an alternative to the CPAP.

To Get More information on what a Sleep Apnea Oral appliance is, Search online for Dr. Stewart Brody, A sleep medicine dentist in Great Neck, New York. He is experienced in Sleep Apnea and is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Hope this post helps people struggling with the CPAP machine!! Feel free to post any questions about this device.

A small, very small, minority of people are helped by this for a while.

It is very disgusting to spam into an apnea forum without announcing yourself for who you are and your interest.
You only have 1 post so you just signed up to sell your products
Sure you didn't sign up for the well being of the poor apnea patients, so at least have some decency and announce yourself and your interest in your post.

From the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) web site: http://www.aadsm.org/OralApp.aspx
# Patients with primary snoring or mild OSA who do not respond to, or are not appropriate candidates for treatment with behavioral measures such as weight loss or sleep-position change.
# Patients with moderate to severe OSA should have an initial trial of nasal CPAP, due to greater effectiveness with the use of oral appliances.
# Patients with moderate to severe OSA who are intolerant of or refuse treatment with nasal CPAP. Oral appliances are also indicated for patients who refuse treatment, or are not candidates for tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, cranofacial operations, or tracheostomy.
In other words, the dental device is a last resort or supplementary item, not a primary treatment method.

Wouldn't you just love to have something that does this? From the page linked above:
Tongue retaining appliances function by holding the tongue in a forward position by means of a suction bulb.

This forum is titled "cpaptalk.com". It is not titled "sleepapneatreatments.com". It exists for the purpose of helping people in using cpap.

Another forum would be a better place for the OP of this thread.

Somebody lose a duck?
O.K.--I might be a teensy mean, as some people are helped by these devices--but very few, indeed.
I'd hate to be a party to steering someone away from the 'gold standard' of treatment.
FWIW, many of us have machines that are not noisy at all.

I beg your pardon. You would keep us ignorant of alternative treatments? I don't think that is nice Hawthorne.

Especially since I learned a great deal about mandibular advancement devices from this very forum.
