What is your CPAP pressure?

Post by B_4 » Wed Dec 22, 2010 9:13 pm

I thought it would be cool to poll everyone's CPAP pressure. For APAP would 95% work?

And what exactly will that show.....that everyone requires a different pressure to eliminate apnias?

I'm just curious.

It will be neat to see what the average is for everyone and the std dev etc. However, there really is no purpose.

As is typical when faced with multiple choice questions, I don't really fit in any of these categories, but blend between two of them. Round pegs, square holes...or something like that.

It will be interesting to see if there are groupings.

I am hoping to see a normal distribution, you would expect to see as much.

Within this study, http://chestjournal.chestpubs.org/conte ... 2.full.pdf , comparing split-night titrations with second night titrations, there are some interesting statistics on the distribution of pressure requirements.

Folks,
After my sleep study I was told my pressures would be 24/19.
Or maybe I have these turned around.
I know this can't sound right but I am positive these are correct!!!

Well,

I haven't voted (yet) since there seems to be no right answer for me.

First titration was for 9cm (which I couldn't tolerate).

Then had a week of auto-titration with the result of 95% of 7.8 and a prescribed range of 4-8cm and a 95% consistently in 7.6 to 7.8 range. And didn't tolerate that very well either.

Then a second titration with BiPAP wiith IPAP/EPAP at 8/6, which (two days into therapy) seems to be much more tolerable than anything I've tried so far.

So tell me if this is vote for 8--9 or vote for 6--7?

this poll doesn't seem to take into account bipap pressures.

30 people viewed it once each. I viewed it 130 times. OCD level high today.

The poll does not consider those on bipap, as another psoter said, nor does the poll take into account the fact that some are on an auto pressure range which is not reflected in the poll.

The pressure setting means nothing anyway except how much pressure is needed to keep THAT PERSON'S AIRWAY OPEN. Everyone's pressure will be different because of that and it has nothing to do with the severity of the person's sleep apnea.

The poll tells me that different people need different pressures and I already knew that.

Ok, I'll take the bait. Why all the negativity? The poll asked for 95th percentile for APAP, and no it does not address bipap. The poll is starting to show what is called a normal distribution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_distribution. So yes, everyone needs a different pressure but from this poll you can see what the average is across a population and you can see if you are above or below the average. If you know how you could even figure out what percentile you are in based on the results. But it is just a poll. If you are offended by a simple poll, move on and don't visit the thread. Sheesh
