CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
Re: CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
I have two favorites - a nasal (the Activa) and a FFM ( F&P 431). I've used mostly the 431 for the last several years, because I mouth breathe and don't tolerate taping my mouth for many days in a row. (HATE CHIN STRAPS!!!) The 431 has this nice little shelf that my chin nestles into. As long as the cushion is clean, I don't usually have much of a leak problem. I just got a new cushion and it fits like a suction cup, which is really good.

Lotta of us here wear the RespCare Hybrid Universal mask, a combo of pillows and oral cushion that covers the mouth making this a full-face mask (FFM). It comes with 3 sizes of oral cushion and 3 sizes of pillows that can be set at 2 heights. It's pretty durned comfortable, does not touch the forehead, or cover the nose.

I've only ever used 2 masks ...
1. Swift II nasal pillow - comfortable but the barrel moved or got pushed out of alignment when sleeping on side.
2. Swift FX nasal pillow - extremely comfortable, least obtrusive mask made, headgear tends to ride up if you toss and turn while sleeping. My preferred mask.

I wear a small Quattro but a medium sized headgear. I believe that Resmed's headgear come in four sizes.
I've tried all the ResMed straps. The problem is that when the verticals are short enough to inhibit/restrict the top strap from popping off, the straps which hold on to the mask (circumferential) are too short.
Anyone else find this to be the case ?
ResMed should make the verticals just as adjustable as circumferentials.

Re: CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
Just started using a Bi-Pap machine and I was given a new mask called the Wisp - pretty comfortable - no leaks - only problem I can see in the future is how do you breath when your nose is stuffy from allergies and you can't open your mouth??
Re: CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
I take an allergy pill about an hour before I go to bed, The air blowing through the wisp (and many other masks) will clear your sinuses. I too had the same thoughts when I started but soon found out it wasn't a big issue. You may go to bed stuffed up (if thats the case just breath through your mouth for a bit while still trying through your nose as well) and all of a sudden you'll notice your all cleared up or you'll be sleeping and won't even notice.
I also find the Wisp mask very very comfortable while providing excellent therapy.

I find the most comfortable is the Resmed Mirage softgel nasal mask. I need to wear a nose bridge protector and then its great. Evvery 4 or 5 days I make a a switch to Aloha pillows for a few days to give my face a break. Works for me.

What is your pressure setting? Mine is quite high and I've yet to run in to a situation where nasal pillows can't find a way through.schweining wrote:Just started using a Bi-Pap machine and I was given a new mask called the Wisp - pretty comfortable - no leaks - only problem I can see in the future is how do you breath when your nose is stuffy from allergies and you can't open your mouth??
Five minutes or so may be less enjoyable when you start.....
Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

I use the Opus 360 and really like it. I think it's made by Fisher Paykel.

The SleepWeaver Elan. On those weird nights when I get leaks I wear an eye mask over it.
