Poll: how long before felt you had more energy?

Post by Knabino » Sun Sep 05, 2010 2:05 pm

Since I'm new, one of the questions at the top of my mind is... how soon will I see results and feel healthy and energetic in my day-to-day activities? If you've been on PAP therapy for sleep apnea for 6 months or longer, please vote above! Otherwise vote "n/a". People like Zeke who were asymptomatic can also vote "n/a".

It returned almost immediately. The emotional "wake up" took about a month. The intellectual also a month or more. And all continued gradually.

BUT every one is different. The damage is different, the brains are different.

If I remember right, this is my 3rd anniversary. I still have no energy. CPAP hasn't made any difference there. I am less sleepy, and I don't have to get up as often during the night to go to the bathroom, but that's about it. I still struggle to wake up to my multiple alarms and and I drag around to get ready for work. I'm exhausted all day, but my numbers look good.

I've heard that the time varies quite a bit from one CPAP'er to another. I think it took about a month before I really started to feel more rested and more energy after years of not getting recuperative sleep.

You need one more option in your choices. For those few of us that are asymptomatic, severe OSA but do not feel tired from it, there isn't a correct choice. I have been on CPAP for 3 months and have gone from 59ahi per hour at my sleep study to an average of 2 on CPAP now with none of the increase in energy others get. I have to believe in the other benefits I am receiving from therapy as my motivation.

I must say I struggled along for months, but at about 6 months I had all my leaks under control and knew how to (really) work and set my machine thanks to this forum. Only then did I start to feel a little bit better each day and my energy started to return. Now, after 9 months I feel very settled and accepting of it all. I think if you found this forum your many many steps ahead of the game.
I also think It might depend on your condition when you were diagnosed. I was a horrible mess so I wasn't coping well with anything. I had just spent that week not sleeping but maybe one hour a night. My husband literally carried me in the door of a sleep clinic. Thank God he did. It took me sometime to really trust the machine and relax with it. I think that's when things start to get better for me.

I started using CPAP in April this year. I've kept records of work rates (calories) and heart rates (bpm) from my weekly gym sessions for the past two years which were slowly dropping off up till last April. I'm now back up to the same rates as two years ago. It's all good.

Before, I was sick, exhausted, and frustrated from lack of sleep.
My first morning, I noticed the morning headache was gone--it has never returned.
Within a few days, my mood had improved--not as old mama doggy (b-word)
My daytime energy levels are gradually moving up.
Incrementally, my brain works better, and I feel more like working.
Yay, CPAP!

It was about 3 months for me. I had a lot of slept debt though, I think.

It took me about a month before I think i was was adjusted to sleeping with the gear. I had some issues with rain out . Mouth breathing etc. Once I got that under control i noticed a significant change in feeling rested.
