OT: Offers of Marriage POLL

Post by LoQ » Thu Sep 02, 2010 7:01 pm

We've had a few offers of marriage here in the forum, but this poll concerns your real love life, not the fantasy some of you are living out here.

This poll concerns offers of marriage that have been refused. Don't pay any attention to offers of marriage you have made that were accepted or offers of marriage you have received and accepted. This poll is not about those proposals, so throw those out when you start counting.

If you are one who has both made and received offers that were refused, there is a special "category" for you, and two of the others will apply to you, as well, so check all that apply.

The last option, "I have never made an offer that was refused nor received an offer that I refused" is obviously disjoint (mutually exclusive) with each of the other options, but I put that one in because if you have never been either party in a refused offer, you can select that option so you can easily see the results if you want to check back later.

I must admit I am totally confused about this poll --

Your explanation is doubly confusing as I don't get what you are looking for.

Well so far 80% of the votes are for the last option.

Why is this topic of interest to you, LoQ? Are you planning to propose and you want to see what the odds are that you'll be refused?

In some parts of the country, the way to know it's a formal wedding is that someone whitewashed the shotgun...

I can't help it if Femmy loves me so much that she asked me to marry her. I didn't say yes!

I thought this might provoke some hilarity, and I was right.

Goofproof, I think we're going to need a little more on that story.

I think the odds are good, according to the poll, that I would not be refused! Of course, I have to believe that most of those who did not participate in a refusal are thus married.

That would seem to leave me with the ones who have refused multiple offers. Hmmm, I'm not feeling so good about that now. Wait a minute. Just a second ago I thought I had a chance, and now I'm defeated. How did that happen?

Shhh. You're going to make SU jealous!

So did you vote in the poll? Cute picture, by the way.

There was also the hoped-for offer from -SWS to brain_cloud. Did that ever materialize?

I think they both accepted another offer, or had their offers accepted!

There is one nearly-sure way of not having your offer refused: discuss the hypothetical matrimony prior to proposing. "Popping the question" out of the blue is not for the faint of heart or those who fear rejection. It's always good to be dating the person at the time of the proposal.

If he thinks I'm going to just be here sitting by the phone much longer, then he doesn't know me very well at all. Because I won't.

I don't really know how to answer the poll. The poll is confusing.

Are you only considering serious offers? When I did CSR work over the phone, I got a few offers. I think at least two, maybe more. I am not sure that I would count those.
