Another tip - when "advertising" that you have machines and masks for donation (or sale), give complete details like the full name, model number, size, etc. so people can end up with appropriate equipment and not be put off using cpap by the wrong stuff.

My husband and I take humanitarian aid mission trips into Cuba as often as we are able. When we haven't been able to deliver things in person, we've found another group from Miami that helps hand carry and deliver things into those in need. PM me if you are interested. Terry

I talked to Mark at http://www.secondwindcpap.com and they are working with sleep apnea association to help people who can't afford a machine. They are happy to take donations. They are really easy to work with-I bought the Intellipap (new) from them. Mark is the owner. He has been a Resp. Therapist for over 20 years.

Hospiceangel -Thanks for the tip! I contacted them and they're sending UPS out tomorrow to pickup the equipment - very easy! They are working with the American Sleep Apnea Association. Check out the BOTTOM of this page for more info on donating with Second Wind CPAP:

Uncle_Bob, check out the top of the page:

"Updated: August 31, 2009
We are currently not accepting CPAP and AutoPAP machines."

I originally tried contacting them, no reply. Then someone else in this thread pointed out they haven't been accepting donations in over a year. Second Wind CPAP seems to be the only place I've found taking donations of masks, humidifiers, machines.

Here's another program I had heard of. I haven't gotten around to going through my mask collection yet....but met someone in chat that had gotten setup through this (currently waiting for a humidifier and struggling to adjust to the donated mask...)

I have lot's of CPAP equipment (machines and masks) I could donate and ship in my next balikbayan box to Cebu if you are interested. I realize this is an old post so the need may have changed.

If it's possible would you consider it to the group that I just started with some friends of mine? We started a project called "The Breathe Initiative" (http://www.breatheinitiative.org). Our goal is to basically provide help to patients here in the Philippines who have no access to breathing equipment such as cpaps, bipaps and ventilators.

It's sad to say that our country doesn't have the adequate health care system in place to help it's citizens cope with medical equipments such as these. Most of the equipments used by patients are bought out of pocket. I can speak from experience since I've been on a BiPAP machine for more than 12 years due to a neuromuscular disease. All of my machines have been bought out of pocket and it's been quite a financial burden. Most of the money I make from working goes to medical equipment. Hence I'm 32 yrs old and I still live with my parents. Not that it's bad. It's actually common here but I just wanted to illustrate how difficult it is. This is saying a lot considering I already come from a middle-class family. A lot of people here aren't so lucky. They live on less than $300 a month. So having access to medical equipment is really difficult.

I hope that you'd consider donating the used equipment to us. What we intend to do with the equipment that gets donated to us is that we'll find a patient that needs it. It will get "assigned" to them for however long they need it. The provision is that if they don't need it anymore, whether they outgrow it or something it gets returned to us so that another patient can use it.

Both I and the people I'm working with on this project have been in one way or another affected by breathing disorders. I suffer from a neuromuscular disorder, while the others have children with a breathing disorder that necessitates the children being on a ventilator. So we know how difficult it is to live with something like this. Nevertheless we still consider ourselves lucky because by one way or another we were able to get equipment and help for it. We want to give back.

If you're open to this please let me know.

Thanks,

Went to this website. Here's the thing. When they say,
All candidates will be required to have their physician complete a short authorization form for donation materials. Your request will not be considered unless this form is completed, by a licensed medical doctor.
Which means - Spend Money... Which I don't have at the moment. So how do they expect someone without financial means to go pay for a medical doctor for an examination and a writ for authorization?

I almost feel that when I read stuff like this they are sort of indirectly discouraging people from seeking out donations.

I just offered my cpap to someone who I doubt will really want it. If they don't I will be more than happy to donate one but I'm worried about the cost of shipping to the Phillipines. It would have to be astronomically high. Let me know what you think.

This was an old thread resurrected by the need request from the new forum member Ronnie Libra.
He lives in the US...no need to ship out of the country.
I have a used mask he can have and a new unopened long hose.
