Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I'm looking for advice on which pulse oximeter to purchase. I've seen some recommendations for the CMS50e. Looking at the image of that device, I wonder if it is too heavy and if it would be better to get a device with a smaller finger probe. Any suggestions or comments from CMS50e owners?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I use the CMS 50F wrist pulseoximeter. The finger probe is lightweight & stays attached even with tossing & turning in my sleep. It records data & the data then can be downloaded to my computer. I am very happy with this unit .

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I have a CMS 50Fthat I’m very happy with. Overnight recording to me is the only way to go.
On the negative side, I found the finger probe too tight and uncomfortable. I solved this by cutting the side of the probe on the opposite side from the wire, and taping it with two wraps of medical tape. I also found the device was uncomfortable on my wrist as it’s fairly large. I now wear it in the palm of my hand using an extended strap. I then wear a light sock over my hand.
I’m now waiting on the results of my sleep test to see where we go from here, but my specialist is impressed with my data as it shows the variable nature of my hypoxia's.

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I use the CMS50-F as well and like it a lot. I, too, find the finger probe a little tight, but I like it because it's soft rather than a hard plastic. I like the fact that it hooks to your wrist and I have no problem wearing it overnight. In truth, I like it a little better than the handheld my DME uses because with that one, I have to remember to grab the darn thing every time I move! With the 50-F, I just move as necessary and forget I'm even wearing it.

I wish contec had a wrist-version like this that would allow you to record multiple sessions between downloads as well as keep time.

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I bought the CMS50D plus from DHGate. It is a fingertip unit that I find not too tight to leave on overnight. Sometimes I switch fingers in the middle of the night if I happen to wake up. It is a basic unit that records with data uploadable to the computer through the cable supplied with the unit.
I like it a lot because of the waveform that it shows for heart rate. I have atrial fibrilation and it instantly shows me whether my heart is in rhythm or not.
The cost was only $66. It comes from Shanghai. I was surprised when I ordered it and another product from the U.S. on the same day. The CMS50D arrived before the US one did. I think it was about a week.

Another CMS 50F owner here. I love it so far. It's not very heavy and I don't have to remember to grab anything if I turn over in bed. The battery life has been good for me and the software is easy to use. I would recommend it.

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I have the CMS550E, the one you are considering. It works like a charm. It stays on my finger all night without any discomfort and works as advertised. I am able to download my data each morning into the software provided to see my overnight results. This unit is a bargain at $130 or whatever it's going for. Highly recommended.

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I'm very happy with my CMS 50-E. It's comfortable for me and stays on my finger all night without any problems. You mentioned concern about weight. I just weighed it on our postal scale for you. It's 1.5 ounces.

Lots of good information here. Thank you all for your replies.
Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
Couple of questions for the CMS 50E users (I am thinking of getting one since the S9 oximeter kit seems too expensive):
a) How often do you need to recharge the battery?
b) How often do you need to download the data before it gets overwritten?

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I’ll answer for the CMS 50F, just so we can compare when someone posts for the CME 50E.
On the CMS 50F, I think it will record for 24 hours, but every time you initiate a new recording, it erases the previous recording. I’ve never had the need to record more than 9 hours of data.
The battery is recharged from the USB port. Whenever I download the data I leave it plugged in for about 2 hours until the charge light turns green

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I have the CMS 50E. I recharge the battery each time after use. It can be recharged using the USB cable or AC adapter (both included with the oximeter). The user's manual states that it can be used continuously for 12 hours, but I've never used it that long in one session. It will store 24 hours worth of data, but each time you press Record, any previous data stored in memory will be deleted automatically. I download the data into the SpO2 program after each use, and just leave the unit plugged into the USB port until it recharges.manas wrote:Couple of questions for the CMS 50E users (I am thinking of getting one since the S9 oximeter kit seems too expensive):

The lithium battery in the CMS 50E will eventually need to be replaced by the service center. Before I purchased, I asked about the cost to replace the lithium battery and was told it would be $43.50 after the 1-year warranty period. I considered getting an oximeter that uses replaceable batteries, but I thought it would probably be heavier and a bother to either buy new batteries or recharge them. I'm happy with the 50E. I don't use it often -- just to spot-check occasionally to make sure that oxygen desaturation isn't a problem while using CPAP.
Here are the user's manuals for all the Contec oximeters: https://www.semedicalsupply.com/user_manuals.htm. And here's a chart that compares the features of all the Contec oximeters: https://www.semedicalsupply.com/SPO2%20 ... 0Chart.pdf.
Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
I have the CMS-50e, and I used it once, to check my pressure was giving me adequate
oxygen - after a really bad first night when I wasn't getting enough O2.
I plan to spot check from time to time, no intention of wearing it every night.
I find it useful as a pulse meter during workouts too since it is super accurate.
But I have to stop the workout for about 5 sec to take a reading,
it doesn't work unless you hold still.
I didn't notice any discomfort from wearing it the whole night.

Re: Pulse Oximeter Suggestions
Further to this topic, my CMS550E has suddenly stopped working. The blue light comes on when plugged in but the unit doesn't work anymore. The screen just stays black when the button is pushed to turn it on. Would this be a problem with the battery? I have been using the unit a lot lately as it is useful in monitoring my atrial fibrillation. If it is the battery, how do I get it replaced? The unit is not a year old yet. We are away from home for 3 months so I don't have access to the instructions that came with the unit. Not sure if it comments on this issue anyway.
Anyone know how I should proceed?
