Wow this is an old post bumped up. I put this 'goop' on people's heads on a nightly basis, it's easier to remove then some people think. The white 'goop' is a water soluble conductive paste, with the most widely used brand called "10-20 Paste". For overnight diagnostic studies, very few labs will make use of an actual glue based product called collodion, which requires a solvent to get off. If the lab uses/used collodion, you will know as they require respiratory items when in use, and it smells awful. As for the 10-20 paste, it's very easy to remove if you go about it correctly. The paste literally melts with heat, as the majority if techs just use hot water to remove paste from equipment prior to sanitizing it.

1. Take hot shower and let water run over your head for a couple minutes. [Water just has to be hot, not so hot its uncomfortable]
2. Then wash hair, any shampoo/soap will do, nothing special required.
- Optionally, if you run a comb or large brush through hair prior to washing it'll break up the deposits making for easier removal.
3. Taaadddaaa! Your done.

- Even easier removal can be made if you just take a hot wet towel, wrap your head with it for about 2 to 3mins, then take hot shower. This method is really good for ladies with longer/thicker hair.

***No solvents or special soaps are required for removal of the conductive paste. Somethings just shouldn't be over-thought.

Yes, my tech told me to just let hot water run on my head. It worked!

The sleep techs used hair gel* to hold my hair away from the areas they put the electrodes. Next morning, after the absolute WORST night of non-sleep I have EVER HAD!, I awoke and went straight to work. The jerk didn't even bother to tell me they had a shower for me to use. But I was so stoned acting all day, I was oblivious. Coworkers said I looked like I had spent the night on the street.

When I went back in for my titration study a week later, different tech told me about the shower.

*They referred to it as "Moose." Sticky stuff, like Jell-o, the next morning.

I think mine came out with no problems with just my everyday shower and using shampoo and body wash.

I tried the conditioner method and it worked like a charm. Three previous washings, vinegar and alcohol didn't work. I never thought I would get that stuff out of my hair so I was very relieved when using conditioner worked. I just loaded my hair up with conditioner and let it sit for about 30 minutes I then wet it with hot water and washed with shampoo - squeaky clean!

I was told by my sleep tech to use Conditioner first, then shampoo and it will remove the goop.

The stuff they used on me smelled like nail polish.
It eventually came out, along with some hair.

Conditioner really worked!!!!

I tried everything on that white goop - hot water, rubbing alcohol, Dawn dishwashing liquid, shampoo - nothing worked. Then I saw the post about conditioner. I put huge amounts of it onto the goopy areas and waited 5 minutes. Then I rinsed with hot water in the sink - you can make it much hotter in the sink versus on your whole body in the shower. CONDITIONER WORKED!!! I'm going to call the sleep center & ask them to tell patients to use conditioner, rather than just hot water.

Ahhh that clear, sometimes murky, goop they use during sleep tests.... went through 2 diagnostics and 2 titration tests and I know too well how that goop feels

A hot shower with shampoo and conditioner did the trick for me

Sent from heaven

An old thread but still relevant. Rub in some Lansinoh and let it set for awhile. Next, wipe off goop with a paper towel, then wash with hot water and soap. Get Lansinoh nipple cream at Walmart, Walgreen's etc etc. It's also good for avoiding mask leaks. It also provides comfort and reduces skin irritation. BTW, it's extracted from raw sheep's wool and is totally natural.

USE DAWN DETERGENT! IT took ALL the goop away! Shampoo study shampoo hadn't worked!

I died my hair blonde yrs ago too, to change from yrs of brown, & allow s&p gray to come in! (Summer is best time to do that, with wearing hats.)

Only problem.....my hair turned GREEN from the blonde dye! EEK! I rushed to Internet for help & a site said use Dawn Detergent to fix it! It WORKED! Went to blonde! PHEW! LIFE & hair saver! I was able to grow it out gradually, trimming blonde off as it grew. SO relieved too, as a trip to MO to see husbands family would've been awful with GREEN HAIR!

SO REMEMBER TO USE DAWN DETERGENT! Only 1 time needed too! (For either problem!)

An old post but... Referring to my old post a few entries up: I tried the Dawn dishsoap suggestion after my last sleep study and it worked really good. Lot's of hot water and Dawn tho. So, easier than my previous suggestion.

Good old Dawn! Safe for baby duckies--safe for most anyone else.
Lots of people can/should not use the toxic formulations for lice; (allergies, chemical sensitivities, etc.)
but use olive oil to suffocate the horrible pests. Dawn removes the oil quicker than anything else.

I JUST HAD A SLEEP STUDY. NOW, MY LONG HAIR IS FULL OF WHITE GLUE. THIS IS REALLY RIDICULOUS! YOU CAN PUT A MAN ON THE MOON, BUT YOU CAN'T COME UP WITH A BETTER SOLUTION FOR SLEEP STUDY GLUE? I CALL THAT NO PROGRESS!!!
