Inside of my nose is very sore..

Post by Jaylee » Fri Mar 12, 2010 9:25 pm

I am not sure if this is related to the BiPap machine or not. I have noticed in the past two weeks that the inside of one of my nostrils has a very sore spot. It hurts to touch and wont go away. I normally don't run the humidifier- I have it turned to zero. So I tried to turn it up for a few days to see if that helped, but no change. Does this happen to anyone else and is there anything I can try or do to help relieve the pain? It only hurts if I am blowing my nose, so it is no big deal, but allergy season is coming soon here so I will be sneezing and blowing my nose a lot then

try Ayr Gel on a qtip... that is if it's a spot that a qtip will hit

If I don't use the humidifier (set on 2 1/2) the inside of my nose feels like it's on FIRE! It gets so dried out.

Yes it is close to the bottom so a qtip would work. I will see about getting some of that Where can you find it? I have never heard of it before.

When I turn the humidifier up higher I get crazy rain out. Like I feel like I need an umbrella for my bed But maybe I will crank it up another level tonight and see what happens

I've found it at Walgreen's and at Dahl's grocery store (in the pharmacy department).

Wouldn't be surprised if you checked your pharmacy and they either had it or knew what it was and where to find it.

On the advice of another forum member I've used Neosporin with pain reliever during the day with very good results. For nasal pillows (like I have) it needs to be cleaned away before sleep so it doesn't negatively impact the pillow, but it really did the trick for me.

I also use the Ayr Gel for general dryness.

Maybe use a non-pillow for one or two nights plus the medication might give it a chance to 'heal'?

Dear Jaylee,

Are you using a hose cover so that you don't get that rain out affect? I purchased a comfy, cozy fleece hose cover from padacheek.com. And, I use my humidifier every night on 2-2 1/2 now without rainout. My sinuses need the humidity. It helps tremendously. I also do use a little dab of AYR gel every day inside of my nostrils.

Warmly,

Jersey Girl

I couldn't find the gel today but we have a Walgreens near where I work so I will try there Monday.

I will put some Neosporin today on it and maybe that will help

I do not have a hose cover, but I will crochet one as soon as I finish my friend's baby blanket. It shouldn't take too long to make one. I meant to do that a long time ago but stopped using the humidifier so I didn't bother

You can also use NeilMed nasal gel or nasal gel spray. Use it when you first remove your mask and before masking up. Works well.

You can also use Lanisoh Lanolin (nipple cream/gel that nursing mothers use).

You can find both in your local pharmacy.

Also the object is to wear that mask on the outside of you nose, not to shove the hose in your nose.
I'm sorry I just couldn't resist saying that.

Just another thing to consider: When trying a new mask once, it made a sore place at the bottom of my nose, and apparently it was just enough of a break in the skin to let a staph bug in, so it ended up being a staph infection. It was very small and not very irritating, and my only real clue that it was something out of the ordinary was that it would get better with all the various things I tried, but it wouldn't completely heal. I mentioned it in passing to my doctor, who took one look and diagnosed it correctly, and it required a prescription antibiotic (Bactroban) to finally clear it up completely.

It's also possible to get a fungal infection in the nose.
If antibiotics and ayr gel don't resolve the situation,
check with your ENT doc to make sure this is not the case.
