Tonight and tonight only... <distant drum roll>
At the Thunderdome... < echoing gravelly voice >
S9 Autoset - The Unboxing...
Get your tickets now at all ticketron outlets.

My first look. I've written this very quickly because I have to go. I hope it's decipherable.

Okay, here's first look at what came out of the box.

This is what the SD card looked like when I put it in my reader:

This is what was on the disk:

I found a little difficulty in understanding a couple things on the settings:

While the min and max can be something like 7 and 13, the start pressure cannot be higher than the min.
That doesn't make sense to me, especially if you don't want to use ramp, but you want to give the machine the leeway to go lower if it senses it might help. What's the deal with that?

Also, climate control can be manual, auto and patient. 'Sleep Quality' can be either 'On' or 'Usage'.

What do these settings mean? I haven't used the machine yet, but it might be good to know.

Cheers,

Chris

Also horribly disappointed. I was also expecting gratuitous photos of the unboxing of the machine. I'm used to this kind of tech porn as an Apple customer.

My Bad. I fixed the link on the first post.
Here's the link again.

As to the card reader, my laptop has an sd card reader right on the side.
It seems to work. I noticed this:

When I take the card and reformat it using ResScan 3.1, it is unreadable by my SD card reader until I put it back into the S9. It does some techno-prayer about 'reading the SD card' and then all is well. Things I wrote to the card from my laptop transferred to the machine. Happily, the card is now written in Fat 32 format - apparently done by the S9 after reading data from the raw-formatted card:

I figure that instead of setting it as an autopap the first night or two, I want to set it up the as close to possible settings to my M-Series Pro so I can get a base-line comparison that will be more like apples to apples. I'm setting it to CPAP mode, and using my trusty home-made manometer, I'm going to give them as close to the same fixed pressure with no EPR. We'll just record data at first. Hopefully that will give me something to judge better what I've been seeing on my M-Series Pro.

I like the color LED panel. It goes out after a couple minutes. Even when it lights on, it's in 'blackout' mode so it doesn't hit you with a beam of white in the middle of the night. The green led on the power/humidity knob could have been a little less bright. I'll likely cover it with a bar towel because it does not go out, and I can see light as bright as that through my eyelids. The interior of the tank glows either red or blue, depending on whether it's heating or cooling. It has a function where it blows air at a very low rate for a while through the hose to cool off the heater.

I had to show off my fancy new sig - see below: Image

Maybe there is a setting for this because mine goes completely dark after a few minutes, maybe not even that long.

I haven't slept with it yet, but that's great to know. Its probably that way by default, and I'll experience that tonight first time.

Thanks, Kickthefog.

My assumption is that the "start pressure" is the ramp (pretreatment) pressure. Minimum must be the minimum treatment pressure allowed once ramp is done. But that is just a guess.

Ah, pictures!

*browsing*

WAIT! Is that a power brick...

*goes back to check*

Noooooooooooooooo!

*checks again*

<groan> ...a power brick. Bigger than expected? I've never heard that before... sheesh.

Nice looking machine. I wonder if they are providing an upgrade path for S8 owners... nah not likely. Figures this would be just like computers... purchase a new one and they come out with a newER one shortly after with more features.

Looking at the pictures I wonder if that is a 90 degree swivel on the output of the humidifier?

Dreamdiver, Did your S9 come with the clinician's manual?
