Men of a Certain Age
Men of a Certain Age
You might say, how busy could I be if I'm watching TV? OK, so I'm stopping for the night and watching TNT's new pilot of Men of a Certain Age.
I couldn't believe me eyes - there was a machine and mask on a bedside table (I think it's a ComfortGel - ??). The shot started showing a man sleeping on his back, he stopped breathing for a moment and then gasped himself awake. Later in the shot his wife said, "You'd sleep better if you'd wear your mask."
I wonder if this is a onetime thing, or if the series will make it and the mask will become part of the storyline.

Re: Men of a Certain Age
I almost forgot the most important line where after his wife says he should wear the mask he says, "I'm not wearing that thing." Hummm, sound familiar?
Re: Men of a Certain Age
Thats interesting. I wonder why hollywood is showing an interest in OSA.

Maybe one of our L.A./Hollywood members has some influence.

I saw that too. I liked the way they just nonchalantly referenced it. I hope they bring it back into the story line occasionally.

Dang it! I had meant to watch that! I was watching MNF!

I dunno, as a general principle. (I did not watch the show.) I appreciate the nonchalant approach more, I think.bailachel wrote:I hope they bring it back into the story line occasionally.
It seems to me that there's more impact if something is taken for granted, rather than made the theme of a "very special" episode like they used to do in the '80s.

I agree. What I meant was that they should include it "nonchalantly" in future episodes. However, if they include it any way at all, it will be better than not including it. It may help raise public awareness.TWW wrote:I dunno, as a general principle. (I did not watch the show.) I hope at some point he will actually use it. (Or at least indicate that he did as a positive message.)bailachel wrote:I agree. Re: Men of a Certain Age
Well, they already have him as a diabetic and wolfing down hamburgers while supporting a bit of a paunch. ( I like a bit of meat on a guy so that's actually refreshing.) However, in this scenario it looks like his character development is one of a guy that seriously needs to take a look at his health and OSA is a part of the picture. Still, bravo to the producers for including OSA!Wulfman wrote:I wonder if he'll die of a heart attack or stroke in a subsequent episode?gasp wrote:I almost forgot the most important line where after his wife says he should wear the mask he says, "I'm not wearing that thing." I too hope they keep referencing it in a tasteful way - and omigosh maybe even treat it as a public educational tool like Hollywood likes to treat so many other topics in the past decade.bailachel wrote: I saw that too. Re: Men of a Certain Age
Last night on the show, they showed him sleeping with his mask on when his wife went in to wake him up. He took it off and got up with no mention of it just as any of us would in real life. Nice.

I don't watch the show, but I knew about the mask early on; glad to see they're still showing it positively. Just curious, but could you tell what mask he was wearing?bailachel wrote:Last night on the show, they showed him sleeping with his mask on when his wife went in to wake him up. Here are pictures that may help us identify the mask and machine. The machine looks more like a Hollywood prop : )WearyOne wrote:I don't watch the show, but I knew about the mask early on; glad to see they're still showing it positively. Notice his mouth is open. My guess is he's not under pressure since he's 'acting' and therefore breathing through his mouth.

The machine looks like a ResMed. No idea about the mask.
