Didn't read all the previous stories.

20 + years in the sleep medicine field.

Blow out lungs - NO
Cause central apnea by raising your pressure too high = YES

You think you know what your doing by changing your pressure, you don't. 1cm change of pressure can cause your body to not take a breath or even try to produce a breath when sleeping. This is called central apnea.

This link appears to be broken. I just received by DeVilbiss Auto-BiPap and did NOT get my "clinical setup manual". Does anyone have a good link to it?

Check the link above...scroll down to near the bottom of the page where you have to request the provider manual
DeVilbiss IntelliPAP Bilevel and SleepCube Bilevel (combined manual)

This is the only place that I know of with the Bilevel machine manual.

Listen to what D-Waves said. Central Apnea can become an issue if pressures are too high. (or for some even when they are not. It is VERY complicated) Then you have the same problem. Lack of oxygen due due lack of effort to take a breath because the trigger for the respiratory drive is thrown off. Especially in COPD patients that have weak lungs and a hard time blow out their CO2. Their respiratory drive is already being driven by the level of CO2 vs. level of O2. Too low of a pressure and you may still be having Obstructive Apneas. FIDDLING WITH YOUR PRESSURE CAN BE BAD OR EVEN DANGEROUS FOR SOME PEOPLE.
Just watching out for you all who think you know better and are not specialists on the respiratory system especially during your sleep. Not to mention what your poor heart is going through all night having to make up for the constant lack of oxygen. Wow.

Good luck.

First of all...you are replying to a year old post. Most people have no problem with adjusting their pressures.

I have the an intllipap a few weeks old. Has really helped but one thing seems to keep happening. It will be working and all of sudden I start get a big airflow at the top of my mask. This usually happens when the water goes empty in the reservoir and when I refill everything is fine again. this time water was still half full and have the same problem. Anyone know what to do to correct this?

Actually the reason most companies dont provide the clinician manual with the pap machine is because most of the time pts have a set pressure from a sleep study. You went and spent all the time and trouble having this test done why change the pressure of the test. Usually if you are having difficulty it is because of a improper mask or mask fitting from what I have seen over the years.

WHY? Because, sometimes the prescribed pressure is WRONG or the DME sets the machine up incorrectly (seen enough examples of that on the forum). And, things can change over time as the therapy starts to work.
The sleep study is only a one-night "snapshot"......in unfamiliar surroundings, all wired up and other factors. Lots of us who could fall asleep at the drop of a hat couldn't fall asleep once we got wired up.

This is precisely why every "flow generator" should be fully data-capable. And, every user should use the software to monitor their therapy to see how it's really working.

The "success" rate of this therapy has been historically pathetic. The idiots (at all levels) who try to keep the users from becoming educated about their therapy should be run out of the business.
