To those who tape your mouths shut

Post by Polysomnoman » Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:21 am

Hi all. As some of you know, I am not a big fan of taping mouths shut. Since being on this forum though, I have had one answer that was asked many times over on different topics that I have read. "What am I supposed to do if I am a mouth breather, and can't tolerate a full face or chin strap?

I believe I have the answer, and I will be testing out my theory soon. I am in the process of finding proper materials. I was wondering what all of you thought, since it was you folks who inspired me to do something about it. I have talked to ResMed, Fisher Paykel and Respironics. No company is ready to come out with any products anytime soon, so I am going to see what I can do. Its actually quite simple. Without giving my idea away, (I have to patent it first) I am going to be able to give patients the choice of any mask they want to wear, and I am fully confident that the way I am going to go about it will work for anyone who has tried to tape their mouths shut. IF the power goes off, the patient will be able to breath through his mouth once the machine turns off. HOW? Well, you will have to wait and see. I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me a truly tough question that has taken me three weeks to answer. ONce I have developed my first "seal guard" I will let you all know, and maybe some of you will want to take a test drive with it. I would like to give some out in the beginning, so anyone interested let me know.

Hey - if it works really well, you'll have a secondary market selling to people with mothers-in-law

Killing your customers is not a passport to a healthy financial future

I'd definitely want to do a test drive.

Still chuckling at this funny exchange:

Dare I add wives to the list of possible users. Expands the potential market enormously.

I'll put on my asbestos suit now so I can bear the flames I anticipate heading my way

I tape every night. I tape because I haven't found anything else that works to keep my mouth sealed shut. I'm willing to try almost anything that will make xpap more comfortable and/or safer. Can't wait to see what you've come up with to help.

Polysomnoman, you are the man. More food for thought about your device: there are devices called "backflow preventers" used in a variety of applications. What if one of those could be used in the mouth to allow exhale but no inhale? Good luck in your development.
