In the four years since this thread was started, the numbers indicate this is an extremely unusual problem.
Please contact the manufacturer or supplier about a recall or defect.
Failing that, a check of devices and wiring in the vicinity is indicated for a possible electrical problem;
or (don't be offended) a neurological examination might be in order.

Swimming in De-Nile gives no burnt smell, maybe fishy. After four years the fire is out, and the smell is gone, anything manmade can fail, especially if you don't know how to use it. A few problems doesn't mean a product is bad, it means one failed for unknown reasons. Jim

My machine smells like a burned cookie when turned on. After cleaning it I used a Q-tip to see if anything was being left in the water tank. To my surprise, a yellowish orangish film came out on the Q-tip. I am wondering if that is what is causing the Oder. You might want to check yours for residue.

While I doubt you have the "Tank" machine that is being talked about in this 7 YEARS OLD POST, I do! If you clean and still get the film, you haven't cleaned it, buy a new tank, use fresh distilled water use it. Jim

The icky film on the q-tip could be biofilm. Nasty-smelling, probably harmful.
I'm happy to report that cleaning the tank and hose usually keeps it under control.
I clean mine when the water starts to feel slightly slimy between my fingers.

Hi,
I also get a burning smell from my water tank. It is always when the water gets low. I just add more and it clears up. My machine is new. I have only had it since last September. I clean it regularly and change the filters.

I have the same problem but the smell is more like something is dead in the water. The smell really come from the water. I was searching everywhere, the mask, the hose and i found it really come from the water and the smell is just HORRIBLE.
