Nerve damage from mask?

Post by PocketDragonFriend » Mon May 12, 2008 1:06 pm

I noticed I have a weird spot on my forehead that hurts like when you hit your funny bone. It's right where the edge of the forehead rest sits from my CPAP mask.

I've tried wearing my mask looser but it just leaks so bad at the high pressures that I have to keep it as tight as possible. Often I sleep ON it just to hold it in place. (This is my third mask in 5 months and is the best so far.) I've finally taken off the soft plastic adjustable "spacer" and am wearing a cloth pad to see if that helps but so far it hasn't.

Has anyone else had this happen? Will it get worse or go away? Any other ideas?

I often got pain like that wherever my mask was creating pressure points. I had to keep changing masks and enbded up with nasal pillows that just don't do that.

A different mask is the only real answer.

Every night I use a 1" square of kleenex (a tear strip folded a few times) under one of the UltraMirage II's forehead spots to soften things and prevent red marks. A pad may be too fat to prevent leaking, but my fix just does the job.

1) Nasal Aire II - no forehead contact - basically no FACIAL contact at all.
2) Headrest - very little facial contact
3) Swift II - No forehead contact
4) Opus - No forehead contact

Good luck! Wanna be on my Nasal Aire II Test drive? Send a PM to "Babette" with your name, address, and offline email addy. You get to try a NAII for the cost of shipping and decide if it's the mask for you before you buy it.

Cheers,
