Changing the hose is the best solution.

I saw black spots on the inside of my hose.
After trying to clean it, unsuccessfully, I dug the new one out.
No idea what the spots were, but I didn't like the smell of the old hose anyway.

My husband has used a cpap machine for 25+ years. He developed a horrible respiratory problem that had him with symptoms like the worst cold ever! He's good about washing the hoses, etc., I looked into the chamber of the machine itself & found a layer of what appeared to be Black Mold spores! These looked like a field of Button Mushrooms!

This is a ten year old stream, but still relevant! Always use distilled water, and always dry everything. My preferred method is the run the machine dry for at least ½ hour after each use.

It's not the hose that's the problem! I dissembled the entire unit and found a fungus plant 2" Long and 1" thick on the inside right after the impeller unit. It was translucent white in color and growing inside. I purchased a SoClean unit and it said if you smell an unpleasant odor it is because of excessive organic material inside. So I decided to take it apart and that's what I found inside. No one tells you that this can happen and you need to be fairly mechanically inclined to do it, you also need Torxs tip driver to open it. I have been getting nose infections for the last 2 or 3 years and now I no why.
Take a look inside yours and see what you find. I have a Philips System1 so I called Aprea health and spoke to a Person that said she has been using CPAP for 18 years and has been diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer.
I'm not using mine any more.

Good Luck!!!

Not revevant, this thread is so old everyone that posted on it had died, but probably not from mold. SoClean probably was used, and they forgot to clead their XPAP before and after they used the SoClean. Jim

In future in your location, when humidity is high. I would remove the hose off the machine and mask, then hang up to dry more. you could even run 2 hoses in alternate days.

I do remove my hose from mask and machine each day and hang it over the bedroom or closet door to thoroughly dry - just from the moist, humid air from my humidifier. I've never had a problem w/rain out.

My S9 machine continues to blow air after being shut off.....This should help dry the hose......Here is what it says in the manual.

In order to assist the heater plate in cooling, your S9 device will continue to blow air for up to an hour
after treatment has stopped. However, you can unplug the device from the power outlet at any time and
allow the heater plate to cool without air flow

I never figured out how the "cool down cycle" could DRY the hose
when the tank is full of warm water. (So, it doesn't, hmmm.)

At risk of once again starting a war. Although pricey, the SoClean, used daily, should prevent the formation of mold anywhere in the system. I to am allergic to mold, so the extra expense is worth it.

question. Wouldn't letting the machine dry it skew the #'s on the software?

I would clean mine more if I could get the answer to that I have always wondered

I dump all the water every morning and let the machine run dry for about thirty minutes (with the hose and mask attached). This way, it's bone dry until the next use. I have not seem mold yet, and I've been using CPAP for nearly eighteen years.

It's especially import to do this before packing the machine for travel!

In order for the SoClean to be sold to unlicesed civilians, (idiots, included--as evidenced by who buys them)
it cannot be made powerful enough to clean anything but your wallet.
