Mouth tape..

by day for night
I need suggestions for types of tape for taping my mouth shut. I now have a mask that seals, allows me to sleep on my side and doesn't scar my nose(the activa). However, I still don't sleep right. I'm just about convinced that air is escaping through my mouth, so I'll try the mouth taping experiment.

What kind of tape do you all use for your mouth and where do you buy it?

Best suggestion that I have seen is this:

Nexcare ease-off bandage

Available Here

And other places...

2" Blenderm tape

I went through the tape rigamarole and discovered a waterproof tape made by 3M called Blenderm. I couldn't find it in my local pharmacies so I bought it online (a 2" wide roll). I holds all night and I've had zero mouth leaks. As mild on the skin as an effective tape can be and comes off pretty easily. It's transparent, fairly thin and ever so slightly stretchy. Apply to skin under lower lip first, pull up so lower lip covers upper lip slightly, then seal the rest of the tape over the lips and skin above the lips. Also, fold one end into a thin tab for easy removal the next morning.

I think Rested Gal uses a 2" waterproof tape from Johnson and Johnson which you may be able to find at a pharmacy. These tapes may be similar but I wouldn't know for sure.

Yes, I use 2 strips of 1" wide Johnson & Johnson waterproof adhesive tape - from WalMart. I slightly overlap them. Be SURE to turn down a little bit of each end of whatever you use, sticking it to itself, to make grab tabs at each end.

edited to make a correction about the size tape I use...it's 1 inch wide, not 2 inches wide as I originally posted many times! (me and numbers..sheesh!)

I do use two slightly overlapping strips of ONE inch wide J&J waterproof adhesive tape, horizontally across my lips, extending well beyond the corners of my mouth.

RG that is why I like the suggestion that was made on TAS for the Nexcare

It has a pull tab built in

Sounds/looks good, Mike! If the adhesive of it holds well enough. I needed something solid, without a "breathable pad" in the middle like what most bandaids have. Also need stronger adhesive sticking power than most bandaids. I'm afraid I'd be puffing air out the top and bottom middle of the Nexcares.

I still like making one's own grab tabs - whatever length is easiest to grip - at the end of strips. I want really quick complete removal of one whole side for a big cough or sneeze.

If that is too much then you can try thinner electrical tape

I've tried all these tapes. Whatever works. I like what rested Gal and Noah use the best. But, if one works at it, you really can train yourself from mouth breathing.

Well, in desperation when I was out of adhesive tape several times, I DID use duct tape one night...never again...and the black electrical tape once or twice...didn't stay stuck well enough.

Gawd, the things we admit to!

Taping mouth shut

I would not suggest taping your mouth shut regardless of the tape you use.
I suggest that you get a chin restraint that you can use over and over. Also they are covered by your health insurance and usually are nothing out of pocket.
I have a company that specializes in sending out disposables for cpap machines if you are interested.
They send out tubes and filters etc as often as your insurance allows.
This way you can get the best therapy possible and know that the supplies you get are always new and in proper working order.
