Necessary to Change Mask Settings During the Night?

Post by VVV » Fri Nov 10, 2023 3:30 pm

I often awaken for a quick bathroom trip at 4:00 a.m. My mask is a FFM (F30i). When going back to bed to sleep another hour or two, I would like to switch to a nasal pillow mask (P30i). Is it necessary to change the machine (AirSense 10 Auto) mask setting?

It doesn't matter to me if it messes up the reporting. I just don't want the algorithm to work less effectively.

I'm trying to avoid getting fully awake by fumbling through the machine menu.

TIA!

(Pressure setting 10 - 20, EPR 3)

I don't think it would be all that big of a deal.
I know the last time I experimented with a full face mask I forgot to change the machine mask setting from pillows to FFM and I went 4 nights with it incorrect and after I changed it I looked to see if there was any real difference in anything important and I couldn't spot anything.
Sure didn't feel different. AHI essentially unchanged and within normal nightly variations.

Only thing I spotted was a very, very minor increase in the leak line when the machine thought I was using the pillows but I was using the FFM. That's to be expected since the FFM has a higher vent rate which could slightly affect leak numbers.

I have no reason to think that doing the converse would be any different.
