I have been using buckwheat pillows for years. I recently bought new ones that are king size, one goes under the head, one behind the back, one to hug and a small sobakawa one over my ear- i sleep on my side and got in that habit when working 11p-7a and it blocked ou the noise wonderfully and now I'M ADDICTED. I too have been using buckwheat pillows for several years and am never without mine except on long plane trips. I think different brands offer different levels of noise, depending un the size of the hulls used and how densely packed the pillow is. My impression is that noisy pillows get quieter over time as the hulls break down some.
