for those who DON'T know-<sigh> oct 1 2019 my wife and i followed our daughter and her husband from flagstaff az to sedro woolley wa. we were to live on their property in an adu converted from a machine shop. apparently, it's a very long process to get a building permit there. by the time it cleared, there was the difficulty in getting a contractor. and THEN the @&$#ing covid-19 pandemic caused the shut down of pretty much all of the building industry.

a few weeks ago, gov inslee opened back up said industry under strict guidelines. a new contractor was found and some work has begun over the last week. as you can see, framing is starting.

i have no idea how long it will be before this is finished.

but i am so hoping that these builders are maintaining physical distancing and adhering to the 30 point guideline. the guideline calls for regular oversight to be sure this is done. i truly hope this is is so. i would feel terrible if anyone caught this dread disease so that i could have a house.

right now, i'm just so happy that this is finally starting to be built.

Congrats. Looks like fine progress. You are forbidden from ever feeling guilt over what construction people do or do not do.

Love that part of the world. Victoria. Vancouver. Seattle. Hurricane Ridge. Good memories all.

May it be completed soon, sir.

Now all you need is a yard and two cats.

ta muchly. we went down today(we are currently residing north of the property) and once again i was struck by foliage here. it's particularly startling to see that green after 4 years or so in flagstaff!

oh and just because i'll soon live in a house doesn't mean i'll return to normalcy any time soon!

When I saw the subject of your thread, I started singing the words... not reading it... singing it.

I'm sure your very, very, very fine house will be worth waiting for. :)

Congratulations. Glad you are finally seeing some movement in the right direction. The closest we have ever come to having a house built was our first house. The structure was complete and only needed finish work such as staining the cabinets, paint the walls and install floor coverings. It really irked me that these simple tasks took over six weeks to get done when I could see newer houses being built down the street from ours that were completed and people moved in before ours was done. Of course, the other houses were in the more expensive part of the development.

Wonderful news, Zonker, and what a gorgeous setting! My husband is a retired general contractor who did one-off residential work, and the pattern I saw over and over was that the early stages of construction would seem to go on forever, then the space would finally be enclosed and things would seem to move much faster, BUT at the very end the punch list would take forever. So my wish for you is that you FLY through that punch list!

Yay!!! Coming along, you will soon be in your dream home and enjoying the view over the strait to sunny Victoria.

We've built 7 homes over the years, so I certainly know your frustrations waiting and waiting to get moved in.

Cheers
Nan
