Heated tube not heating - raining in my nose - any ideas?

Post by betsys » Sat Dec 28, 2019 10:47 pm

I have a Resmed Airsense 10 with a nasal pillow and after several non-consecutive nights of waking up feeling that I just HAD to rip the thing off my face, I realized that the tube is not heating and there is water accumulating in the pillows. I've turned down the humidity which helps somewhat. This is a new hose and I think it did work at first but not completely sure. I don't know if it is intermittent but it definitely has not worked for the last two nights.

Of course I have a call in to the supplier but I expect it will take a while to get a replacement this time of year, and if it is the CPAP and not the tube, that will take longer, so - any thoughts or tips on debugging the heat or how best to live with it? It's so dry here right now, going with no humidity at all would be highly irritating.

thanks for any pointers.

What temperature is the heated hose set at?
What is the ambient bedroom temperature set at?
What is the humidity setting set to?

It was set to auto. I changed it so temp was set to 84 (or whatever the highest was) and turned humidity down to 4 then 3. At 3 I can sleep through the night.

Room is cool. I get it to mid-60's before bed and then it drops to upper 50's at night, depends somewhat on the weather (I am in New England)

The heating is definitely malfunctioning as the hose is cool to the touch and it used to be warmer.

Thanks Betsy

I’ve had my air sense 10 for about three years the heating has never worked however I believeIt could be I just don’t have the right settings.
Could someone suggest the proper settings that could at least let you know if it’s working or not?

Can you improvise a hose cover? if you are a sewer, make a long tube out of a light weight material, t shirt or fleece. Or if not a sewer, some tube socks, hand stitched together.

Also, try lowering your cpap so it is lower than your mask, so gravity can prevent rainout into the mask.

A room humidifier might be helpful, for comfort, if you already have one around.

Trust me--the heated hose does not get warm enough to feel the difference with your hand.
If it is malfunctioning, the screen will show an error message.

I always wondered about people saying that... since 86 is a good bit cooler than body temperature, the hose SHOULD feel cool in your hand.

I have noticed that when the bedroom is chilly, my nose does NOT feel like an ice cube.
Otherwise nothing feels "warm".
If it did feel warm to the touch, I would be very uncomfortable--sweating, even.

I can definitely feel the temperature difference when the hose is on in a 58-degree room .

Before I got a hose cover, I could feel a little bit of a warm feeling in the hose right after I started the machine. This would only last for a minute or two.

To each his own.
I like it a little warmer--arthritis, of course.
Get too cold, and it hurts like the dickens.
