USA, prescription required?!?!
I'm a U.S. expat in Asia. I recently had to go to a different country to find a competent hospital at which to get a sleep study done. The doc did it, recommended machines and masks, and told me that if I bought them in the U.S. I'd pay literally about 40% of what they'd have to charge me because of import tariffs.
Tonight as I'm almost about to head home for Thanksgiving/Christmas, I randomly run into a discussion somewhere at which someone says that all of these products require prescriptions to buy in the U.S.
Is this true? I can't just place an order on Amazon and get a CPAP shipped to my home address?
What exactly does the "prescription" need? Would a foreign prescription be honored if I bring one, or am I stuck seeing some quack in the U.S. and paying a few grand out of pocket to get another sleep study done to tell me what I already know?

Re: USA, prescription required?!?!
You won't need a copy of any RX if you want to use Amazon. They don't seem to be asking for a copy.
Some US based online cpap suppliers will require a copy of a RX but usually a foreign RX works just as well as a US based RX.
I know cpap.com will accept a foreign RX as long as the necessary requirements are covered in the wording of the RX.
You could buy from secondwindcpap.com right now and not need a RX copy because they don't require prescriptions for international purchases. They ship all over the world.
So you have some options.

Re: USA, prescription required?!?!
I found a practically new machine (less than 8 hrs) on offer up at huge discount with everything included . You could try sites like OfferUp, letgo, FB marketplace, and craigslist. I put more time on that machine, both last night and the night before last, than it originally came with.

Thank you both; that's a relief. It costs about as much as a machine for me to go travel and do the doctor's appointments.

I got masks from Lofta.com, and my machine from Walmart.com, without using my prescription. I do have a prescription, but just want to control my own therapy. No CPAP police for me! Being in Asia you might need an adapter plug to fit their electrical outlets though.

Please let members advise you on which model machines are suitable for your condition. Post a little in this thread about your diagnosis and what the doctor prescribed.gorgonzilla wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 4:14 pmThank you both; that's a relief. There are some sellers who sell cpap machines through Amazon.

Re: USA, prescription required?!?!
There are several people on this site who often have good lightly-used machines for sale. As Pugsy said though, post your info first.

Not handy. Sorry. It's hit or miss sometimes though with machine availability.
The link I had to a seller who used to offer several machines is now dead on Amazon. A quick search just now didn't yield any results but just earlier this week I saw some. If you can't find anything now you might try later.

I am not looking but really doubt the accuracy of your post. There are not any on sale at AmazonPugsy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 4:41 pmNot handy. Sorry. It's hit or miss sometimes though with machine availability.

I guess you're just no good (too drunk and belligerent?) at searching:
