I am told that it is often my silent trolling behind the scenes that can be most insidiously destructive to the board as a whole.

It's funny how we come to depend on the same people doing their same usual stuff here every day and when they are absent we miss them more than we might have thought we would. And the longer they are absent the worse it gets.
This is certainly true. Glad to have you back Zonker! Glad to hear you had a good trip.

Just to be different...

I didn't miss you. But then again, I also wasn't paying attention, so I hadn't even realized you took a trip. :)

Pacific northwest. Beautiful place, spent a few years there in the military. The weather is terrible for nine months, and then you get three months of absolutely stunning weather. I had to go to tanning beds in the cold of winter to insure that I was getting enough vitamin D. The weather is actually a lot worse when you have to live in it outdoors for several weeks on end. It is impossible to get dry. Nice place to visit, but I don't want to live there again. Rain. So. Much. Rain.

Anyway, welcome back!

thanks! and i forgot to reply to pugsy's post as well. it certainly IS true that we each have a tendency to play a part here on the forum. and once i realized i wasn't going to be any sort of tech expert, i decided to become the welcome wagon. it serves it's purpose, i guess.

believe it or not, you can get used to the rain. and it's precisely because of those gorgeous three months. it balances things out wonderfully.

when i first moved there, i didn't think i would be able to make it through the fall/winter/spring. but someone told me that i should look for those very small patches of blue sky that break through every now and then. it would help me to hold on.

it's true and it did. and it's rather a life lesson all told, isn't it?

Not when you're waking up at 4AM to go run PT while in the Military it isn't. The only life lesson I learned there was to be more judicious in exactly which papers I was appending my signature and SS# to.
