what does a resmed machine do differently between full face vs nasal mask setting.
I used my dreamwear nasal last night for the first time in a few days after using a ffm and I forgot to switch it to nasal mask. what difference does it make?
I have kinda had a pressure feeling in my eyes all day, kinda headache-y.
mask setting on machine, what difference does it make?
Re: mask setting on machine, what difference does it make?
Some people will tell you that the machine uses the mask settings for leak calculation... this actually makes little sense these days, what with computers in the cpaps, and the similarity of mask leak rates. Now, a few models back, when they weren't as computationally advanced... I'm sure that the mask setting was used partially for leaks.cpapbro wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 9:39 pmwhat does a resmed machine do differently between full face vs nasal mask setting.

I have measured pressure differences at the machine with different mask settings, which makes sense, Full face masks have less resistance to airflow (something that's listed in the mask manuals than do pillow masks. The machine increases pressure *a little* to compensate for that extra resistance, the same way it does when using a slimline hose instead of a regular hose, or adding a AB filter, or indeed, even having a humidifier attached.
The pressure change is small, but I've seen it.
In your case, the pressure *at the mask* would have been a little *lower* than it should have been... maybe half a cm at most.

I know auto on/off on a S9 will not work if set to full face mask.

Well, when not using a FFM, anyway.

Sure it will ..... use the auto on-off on my travel S9 all the time. Works with my FFM...

Re: mask setting on machine, what difference does it make?
When I first switched to a pillow mask, I was miffed that the machine didn't shut off automatically any more... Then I realized I'd forgotten to change the mask setting... I set it to pillows, and it's worked fine ever since.
