Obstructive sleep apnea in older adults: Often present, seldom investigated

The gist of this article is that the oldest adults are seldom referred for sleep studies, even though they're at the same or higher risk as younger people. The article also states that a whopping 94% of those tested are diagnosed with SDB! I would presume that if more were tested, the number would drop somewhat, since those tested would be those who present the most obvious symptoms and risk factors.

When one ages, one loses muscle tone, which can cause the onset of SDB or elevate a sub-clinical case into a full-blown case.

The number of known geriatric cases will rise as those of us who were diagnosed earlier in life age into this category.
