Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
I went to Dr 4 days ago at end of 3 months as newbie & he recommended a face mask for my next kind as I was using a nasal pillows mask & having issues. I went to my very helpful & friendly DME in Spgfd MO, & they had just received a Dreamware face mask, so I brought it home. So far, I haven't awakened with that super dry mouth that i had with the other mask, & I am sleeping with less waking interruptions! I definitely like the hose connection on my head out of my way for side sleeping & the less lines on my face in the morning. My AHIs are about the same as the nasal, 5 or less. I will know more after using it a month.

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
What does the bottom mouth part do?
Does it cause you to breathe through your mouth as well as your nose?
Or does it just keep your mouth sealed shut?
What are the round things for on each side of the mouth part?
I am using an original Dreamware with the cushion below my nose plus an elastic Halo headband over my mouth and wonder whether your version of the Dreamware would be more efficient, because some nights the headband over my mouth slips down.
Thanks, Nate

Those videos answered all my questions.
IMHO not a well-thought out design.
It would take those like myself, who have worked hard to minimize mouth leaks, and turn them back into full mouth-breathers! Seems as if I tried this version of the Dreamware, I would likely revert to a full mouth breather and never be able to go back to the minimalist cushion-only Dreamware I love.
I thought/hoped this model was just going to place a soft flat piece against the mouth/lips to eliminate mouth leaks.
I will stick with the original Dreamware and my stretchable headband over my mouth and/or just under my lower lip to keep my mouth shut.
Best wishes, Nate

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
Hi Martha - I had the same experience - went into my sleep doc for a regular appointment and noticed this new mask on display - they said they just got it in a couple of weeks ago - so I say “let’s give it a try!” like I always do I wear an Amara View pretty regularly (about 1 of every 3 nights) so I’m hoping this one fits the same - they didn’t have my size so they put an order in for me and I should have it next week - I’ll report back how it goes for me but am interested in your results as well.
Martha - one question from your picture - did you buy separately some padacheek or similar product to cushion those side bands where the air flows down from the connector at the top of the head, or did those come with the mask?
- thanks - Roger

The side strap/frame covers should come with the mask package. Normally they are included unless a person gets a special not for resale demo package.rogerconnelly wrote: ↑Sat May 19, 2018 8:09 amdid you buy separately some padacheek or similar product to cushion those side bands where the air flows down from the connector at the top of the head, or did those come with the mask?

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
I was just looking at this mask on the Philips website. I currently use Amara View. Was wondering how it would be for side sleeping? Anyone have experience with that? Would the "hoses" get pinched off? It looks comfy, am thinking of trying it!

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
I recently purchased the mask from our site sponsor and one from a forum member. Neither mask came with the frame covers. Even with out the frame covers, I think it is more comfortable than the Amara View which I had used in the past.

After I posted what I posted above I did some poking around and it appears that not all the retail packaging includes the side covers.Okie bipap wrote: ↑Sat May 19, 2018 9:48 amI recently purchased the mask from our site sponsor and one from a forum member. Neither mask came with the frame covers
Not sure why some do and some don't but I know I have seen it offered at some websites with the side covers included.....or at least I did a few weeks back.
If not included though...easy to find them if wanted or needed.
Fabric wraps for Respironics DreamWear

and of course check EBay or Amazon
It would also be extremely easy to make your own....doesn't have to be fancy.
It's fine for side sleeping. I know some people worry about the air in the frame on the side that is down but it's really a non issue.
I tried this mask and even slept on my stomach easily with it. Side sleeping is my primary position. There's no reason that anyone couldn't sleep in whatever position they wanted with this mask.

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
I just finished my attempt to use this full face mask. I'm a mouth breather and a side sleeper, and can only use a ffm. First night, seal was fine. But after 3 hours, had to switch back to my Quatro Mirage. Air coming in was warm. Don't use a humidifier. Second night, slept with it for full 8 hours, but leaks showed rather strong. Third night, after 2 hours, air coming in was so warm I had to go back to the Mirage. Air comes into it feeling cool. I loved the smooth fit on the face (full beard) and the top air inlet. But couldn't take (or understand) the very warm air feeling of what I was breathing in. Mask went back, and just ordered the Quatro Air. Looking forward to enjoying it.

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
Since you don't use a humidifier then the reason for the warm air has to be either from rebreathing your own exhaled warm air or the incoming ambient room air.
I suspect that the air in the mask when you exhale just isn't getting cleared out quickly enough to get rid of the warm feeling from your own exhaled warm breaths. It's just staying warmer longer than you prefer for your own particular comfort and preference.

Thank you, Pugsy. That's what I was suspecting. When you put it that way, it becomes so obvious. Makes sense to me now. Love this forum.

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
I have this mask as a backup. My primary is the nasal mask version. I am a side sleeper and it does not cut off or diminish air flow. I have the fit pack and it didn't come with the side covers. I find that It's very comfortable. My problem is that I have oily skinny. Half way through the night the mask starts to slide around. I'm waiting for pad a cheek to come out with a liner. I made a version for the bottom part and it helps a lot.

Re: Trying a new style Dreamware Face Mask
Finally got my Dreamware delivered yesterday - wound up putting one of my Amara View padacheek’s on it cause I need cloth between me and any mask and this worked pretty well. However, and this is just for me likely, the mask never sealed as well as my Amara View does - so halfway through the night I wound up switching to my tried and true F20 just to get a few hours of good sleep under my belt. The good news is I can confirm what others have said already - side sleepers need not worry - air flows to the mask just fine. I had great hopes for this design (tube on top of head) so I’ll probably try a few more times before giving up. I hope others continue to share their experiences with this new mask
