Why are my Symptoms getting worse since using CPAP

Post by itsmemario87 » Mon Mar 19, 2018 11:11 am

Well basically its been almost a month since ive been using the CPAP
Its a ResMed elite
i reduced my episodes from 46 to 3 or zero.

i can honestly say i dont feel as tired as i did pre therapy
-i have more energy
-im not falling asleep as i used to
-i dont have microsleeps at work
-my face isnt swallowed in the mornings.

These is whats getting worse.
-Worsening in my ¨brain fog¨ lack of concentration, forgeting words, mixing up words, etc. (this is whats scares me the most)
-headaches i woke up every day with different pain in different spots like if someone had hitted me in the head while i was sleeping
-body pain (this used to come and go, some people tell me its fibromialgya but i can honestly said its related to sleep apnea, and it has been quiet and gone for a while, but returned again after a few days of using CPAP)
-Weight gain, i just found out i putted 3.5 kg since starting the cpap, 1 kilo per week, im eating just the same.

this is driving me nuts, and im desperate.

I Went to a neurologist and he told me it might be sleep debt.

Gaining weight will definitely increase your need for Cpap - even a little (personal experience), so try to get rid of it asap. And while you may feel your body pain (?) is related to Cpap, you can't actually know that objectively so maybe ask your doctor to investigate further... not everything is about OSA or Cpap - though I do realize you think you gained it since going on Cpap.

It sounds line the therapy is solving at least part of the problem, but is somehow causing other issues.

You didn't say what kind of machine that you're using, or even if it's data capable (most of them are nowadays).

You might want consider changing the pressure (or discussing doing so with the doctor), and/or changing the humidity (higher or lower, see what works for you).

BTW, it could just be that the mask is too tight.

Some things happen slower than others.
Your fibro may complicate things in the beginning, but cpap can help.
Sore muscles may be the result of breathing more deeply/moving around less in bed.
You have made a good beginning. Keep on keepin' on.

My first thought is always to be certain one's treatment is optimized. My first several months of treatment I worsened, largely because my CPAP treatment left much to be desired. Getting my settings dialed in helped a lot to turn things around. It is encouraging that you are seeing some positive results from treatment. About the pain you are having - is it overall and generalized, or specific to particular areas of the body? If your answer happens to be mostly in your legs, I'd jump straight to suspicion of periodic limb movements. Do you have any history of limb movements either experientially or on your sleep study report? Good luck at working through things and getting to feeling better.
