Is resmed aircurve 10 ST model (bipap, correct?) a good backup if the price is right?

Post by cub4bearin » Sat Mar 17, 2018 6:40 pm

Hello everyone.
I’m currentky using resmed Airsense 10 as my main machine. It’s APAP machine.
I’ve been looking for a backup or maybe even better option than what I have now. And I found Aircurve 10 ST model. Is that better than what I have now?
Would it be good as backup, if right now I’m using APAP between 7 and 12?

Any info welcomed. Thank you.

That model machine will NOT do any auto adjusting of the pressures.
It has 4 modes of operation and there are a couple you could use but none of them will auto adjust at all.
Fixed pressures only.

No way, ST machines are expensive and a waste of money if all you need is an APAP. Plus, as pugsy states, there is no APAP function - only set CPAP as one of the therapy modes.

As always BIG THANK YOU!
That’s a bummer.
A $150 bummer ;(
Haven’t bought it yet but was hoping I found my backup.

I got one and used it for a while just to check it out but I used in in fixed bilevel mode.
You could make it work but it would likely mean using a higher exhale pressure all night than you normally would use.
I used it in Bilevel S mode.. fixed bilevel.
The modes with the back up rate you don't need and wouldn't like.

It would make a decent back up machine though...just won't do apap mode and doesn't distinguish between centrals and OAs...everything is "unknown".
Depends on just how critical it is that you use apap mode. I normally use apap mode but I was able to use the ST in S mode and did well with it.

Being new to this APAP is all I use so far. So hard to find Autosens 10 in that price range. I found my current one in December. But nothing since till the Aircurve today

What pressures are you using now and how high does it go?
You might do fine with fixed pressures as a back up machine.

I was prescribed 12.
But my doctor told me I can go APAP and do 8-12. Depends on mask, it may hit 12 sometimes. I usually raise it to 13 on a full face mask. On nasal pillow no higher than 12. On both minimum stays at 8.

If you want to see how you would do on fixed pressures similar to what you could use on the ST model in S mode you can change over to cpap mode and try a setting of 11 with EPR at 3.
That gives you 11 inhale and 8 exhale.

Similar setting on the ST in S mode would be EPAP 8 and IPAP 11.
