OT- Horrible luck for tadpole.

Post by chunkyfrog » Sun Dec 10, 2017 3:01 pm

On Nov. 27, my grandson's 2002 Ford Escape was stolen while he was delivering pizza.
The thief used (and abused) the car for ten days, and then fled from Lincoln to Council Bluffs, IA.
The car was recovered after a high speed chase, terminated by "stop sticks", a curb, and a TREE.
The car was a total loss. My grandson lives on his own, works full time, and attends school,
all of which requires a reliable car.
His dad started a gofundme page--gofundme.com/grand-theft-pizza.
We would appreciate a.look, a kind thought, forwarding the plea, or even a tiny contribution.
Thank you, and much love from the grandma frog.

Hate to hear your tadpole is having to deal with this. Hope he gets some support through the gofundme page. It wouldn't be immediate help, but ask if there's any sort of victim support fund in your area.

He was told it was only for victims of VIOLENT crimes.
I pointed out to Isaiah that he needs to contact the prosecutor to demand restitution,
in case they are stupid/lazy enough to give the thief a light sentence.

He had liability insurance.
When you are poor, comprehensive goes away once the loan is paid off.
I think he will be getting coverage once he can get back to not being a pedestrian.

If he was delivering Pizza he might have some sort of coverage from his employer. Or, at the very least, his employer should be making a generous contribution.

I always paid cash for mine, not much, $150 for a Pinto, $ 150 for a Maverick, not much to lose, but all I had. Now after 55 years of driving I drive better a better truck, it's 8 years old, with 12,000 miles on it, still paying full coverage, but gritting my teeth every time I pay them. Jim

At a pizza joint? not happening!
Makes you think twice about buying from them . . .
Well, at least hesitate to WORK there!

I'm sorry this happened to your grandson. I remember when my kids were his age and how important a car was to them for the same reason. Hopefully, he can find a job that is closer to his home.

However, when you think about what's going on in this country and around the world... the hurricanes, fires, homeless people, starving children and the like, I don't consider your grandson's plite to be in the same category.

I have to agree with LH even though I definitely empathize with his situation.

Best of luck to him.

This is true.
Others suffer beyond measure, but we think first of those we CAN help.
On the other side of the globe, millions are sent,
and very little is actually received by those who need, because of rampant corruption.
It is discouraging.
They say hardship builds character--by the time this is over, he will be just as weird as the rest of us.

This is called a fraudster's excuse. "There are tens of thousands starving in Burundi, so why help my neighbor?"

If one is able to give a few bucks to help the kid, and is so inclined,...do so. If not, it might be better to just wish him luck rather than draw comparisons to others, and basically make light of his situation.
