I think the reason the old school RT's would say not to use vaseline has something to due with breathing it in. If you remember when we were young mom would put Vick's VapoRub inside our nostrils and that has petroleum jelly in it.
As a long term every night activity, using Vaseline is not a great idea. The reason is the risk of lipoid pneumonia. Vicks Vaporub comes with the same warning not to rub in or near the nostrils (particularly for small children) because of the petroleum jelly.

When I was starting out I found Nozoil better than lanolin. It is based on sesame oil. However I think it is a bit hard to find in North America.

amiss, it's sounding like you could be a alter reality of someone else that posts here, that or you could almost run the race for his reality check. Good luck, he's fast! Jim

My board certified Pulmonologist uses Sleepyhead software and writes prescriptions for me for machines I have obtained from craigslist
It's nice having a thinking, flexible PARTNER in my care not an automaton.
As far as using KY Jelly in your nose, go for it. I once put triple antibiotic ointment in my nose when it was drying out and being irritated. Worked some, but didn't work for long, changed masks to get the pillow to stop touching that spot.
Good luck, don't be so nasty

Holy fffff!!!
I would have thought Vaporub was dangerous from the menthol or from whatever effect other aromatic ingredients would have... not the petrolatum!
THANK YOU!
