Whatever works for you. Personally, I would rather wear something around my neck instead of stuffing a device in my mouth.
Stored away here at the house are several boil-n-bite mouthpieces, a Dr. Sue NoseBreath, aveo TSD, a SomnoGuard adjustable and two $1700 TAPs.
None of the mouthpieces are comfortable, and none hold the neck in the correct position. Except for the TAP, none stop the jaw from dropping.
A sports mouthguard = $2 to $20 is not the same as a TAP

Why on earth would someone buy two if one doesn't work?
Who said to not use the collar? Or a pillow? Whatever helps to keep the spine straight?
The sports mouthguard was to keep the mouth closed is all. So you could probably loose the chin strap at least.

I don't wear a chin strip, and I don't want to wear a chin strap.

It takes a PSG to know what is really going on, so lower numbers from a home machine do not prove better sleep. That is because, for example, a substance that cuts down on time spent in the more beneficial sleep stages (which may also be stages when a person's airway may need the most help to stay open) can improve the trending numbers reported by a home PAP machine without actually improving sleep itself.
"Low doses of THC (4 to 20 mg) mildly
decreased REM sleep in both regular users and nonusers. Interestingly, deep sleep was increased when cannabis was initially used but this effect disappeared after repeated use. With high doses of THC (50 to 210 mg) REM sleep was decreased in both regular users and nonusers. Total sleep time was not affected but
deep sleep was decreased."--

Wouldn't it be great if people would read a post carefully before answering?

Cliff is right. Truth is there are a lot of theories about sleep apnea but it is a complex issue that is still in the experimental stage of treatment.
Personally I think it's fascinating that CNS depressants decrease apneas. I mean shouldn't they relax the throat and INCREASE events?
And between alcohol, benzos and weed, would anyone argue that the former two are healthier for long term use?

Interesting abstract, thanks for linking to that.
I tried CBD oil to treat insomnia (caused by untreated OSA) two years ago, and it didn't help me, unfortunately, but I believe that different strains produce varying results, and I'm not sure if I was using the right one or not.
Next year when weed is legal here (IF weed is legal next year, the wheels are grinding slowly) I plan on making some weed brownies to see how it affects my sleep pattern and AHI. Just for laughs because I'm happy with my treatment and sleep.

Fire. Aim. Ready.
(And I never said someone bought two $1700 TAPs. )

I don't use anything that is a CNS depressant, but I've noticed that I have more events when I sleep lightly and less when I am exhausted and crash at night. It seems like CNS depressants would make you initially sleep deeply, hence less events. Even if you woke more later in the night, your overall AHI would be lower. Just a guess.
