Filling water chamber

Post by DAYMX5 » Sat Jun 24, 2017 6:51 pm

I just got a new ResMed Airsense 10. Coming from a 12 year old RemStar it is quite an improvement. The only thing that I don't like is that I have to pull out and open the water chamber each night to fill it. My old machine I just had to pull off the hose and put a funnel into the hole and fill it. Has anyone tried drilling a hole in the water chamber of the air sense and then putting a plug in so you can fill the chamber without removing it? I don't see why this wouldn't work.

Any opinions or ideas?

Is it really that hard to add water to these cpaps?

Your old cpap must be what we call a tank? Always removing the hose is not a good idea either but you got used to it?
But if you insist on removing the hose consider adding a HC325 Replacement Water Chamber for HC100/150 Humidifier.

Or even go back to the Respironics.

btw - I never pour thru a funnel as it only acts to transfer dust, dirt, and bacteria into the water chamber.

You could drill a hole and go back to your old routine.. I dont see that as being easier or better though.. also isnt it a good idea to take the chamber out and empty it? I empty every morning and refill at night. When I travel and dont have easy access to DI water i like being able to empty, rinse, and towel dry each morning.

You were nice for so long. Did your meds run out again?
Have someone read this to you again - I DO NOT USE A FUNNEL.

I have been using a funnel for 25 years +++
The funnel sits upside down over the Distilled Water jug after each use

NO negative consequences ever

I've never used a funnel + never cleaned the chamber.
Conclusion = a funnel is NOT necessary for proper operation.

Bad idea. Why, you say? Simply stated, the tank exists as part of a closed chain of air transport. Right now, the only way air gets out of the chain and into your lungs is through the only hole in the tank that interfaces with the hose and, subsequently the mask. Drilling a hole defeats the system unless you find some way to seal it when the unit is in use. Think of it as building in a permanent large leak.

I am actually grateful a funnel was tossed into the discussion.
I was thinking about doing this--but, due to a tremor, I ALWAYS use a funnel
for transferring liquids into any narrow-necked container.
The current design works fine--no changes needed.
(((Now, maybe for someone with insufficient grip strength, it might be a good idea.)))
Anything else depends on something like a laziness coefficient.

I always used a funnel until I got the DreamStation. You do have to open the "door" to the humidifier. When you do the tank is wide open on top, so no funnel is needed. When you close the door, you complete the seal. See photo below.

I don't recommend drilling holes in your CPAP, as the case will be weakened, the warranty will be voided, and you might damage the machine in some way that you cannot predict.

In the old days maybe they came with a funnel but in the digital age they no longer do afaik. The funnel is no longer needed.

All of this talk about funnels made me hungry for funnel cake. Damn, now I'll spend the day searching for a road carnival.

I rather like the idea. I find it awkward to remove the humidfier chamber and fill it without slopping around. One risk is cracking the plastic when you drill. Go slow, starting with a smaller bit. Or, better yet, use a step bit. The next issue is finding a plug for the hole that works. A rubber stopper might work. It will have to have a near perfect seal.

I have chamber that no longer seals correctly, I think that I didn't toss it. I might try drilling in it.
