"partially caused" by SA. I think drugs played a bigger part.

And, I believe this to be pure nonsense.

I do not like to be argumentative; however, lots of inquiring minds read these threads, and deserve the truth.

Anoxia kills, and that's that.

apnea never killed anyone

heart attacks from to fast a rate during apnea maybe
lack of oxygen from an apnea maybe
but not apnea

apnea damages health so people may die sooner
but it does not kill them itself
So ...if a person gets hit by a car and dies, the car didn't kill them it's because their heart stopped beating.

Saying that [almost] nobody dies of SDB is like saying [almost] nobody dies from AIDS.

People generally die from complications caused by SDB (heart conditions, cardio-vascualr disease, stroke, etc.), and people generally die of the opportunistic infections due to AIDS.

When doctors are taking my medical history, they don't care about my dad succumbing to infection from gangrene of the bowel, it is the familial cancer history that matters. Same with other medical conditions that cause damage that can lead to or hasten death - those things that had they not been present, life would have continued.

I am curious about the details of Carrie Fisher's health that led the doctor to conclude sleep apnea played a role. Was it how the heart was enlarged? Were there ischemic lesions on the brain? Did someone observe her sleeping on the plane and said she was having breathing irregularities? Just wondering if the coroner even specified obstructive sleep apnea. With her history could it have been central apnea?

While sleep apnea is generally considered to be a condition that can cause slow accumulative damage, people can die as a direct result of a severe sleep apnea event. Not being the usual case would be little comfort to the loved ones.

You are new here. I would strongly recommend that take 15 minutes and review this youtube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gie2dhqP2c

This video helped me to understand what is going on, and put the whole thing in perspective for me,
and hope you will take the time view it, and you will understand also. This video should be required viewing for all new people.

I wish you well..

There is no point arguing with this individual. He has long ago demonstrated to be completely devoid of any reason or ability to look at things objectively. Only his opinion is correct. The only reason he exists on these boards is to argue and create conflict. He is best ignored after his post is discredited.

I'm with Ms. Teague. I'm curious on how bad the apnea was.

What I have not been able to determine from googling is whether she had been diagnosed during her lifetime, or whether the coroner made this determination based on "forensic" evidence. Also, it could have been based in part by observations made by passengers/crew on the plane and/or in (or en-route to) hospital.

Does anybody have further information?

believing it is pure nonsense
that is like saying life kills people albeit slower

apnea is like a disease that contributes to death long term
apnea per se has never killed anybody

what actually kills people is heart failure from lack of o2 or too rapid heart rate trying to get o2 to brain
Warning. Baby Libtard (xxyzx), Man-Child alert. Proceed with extreme caution. Safety googles are required in this area to avoid eye injury due to the violent maelstrom of hair-splitting that will ensue.

typical cause of death will be heart or cancer not apnea
cancer does not kill people! It is the heart stopping.
Lung-cancer does not kill you! It's the lack of oxygen that kills you - the lung cancer play absolutely no role in that.

Sleep deprivation does not kill you either - it's the heart failing.

Thinking of it: getting your head cut off does not kill you either - must be the lack of oxygen or the lack of blood in the brain.

ROFL! you absolutely rock xxyzx!

If everyone could get an ASV the world would be beautiful - we could live forever.

Must be really sad in the US, where people without any kind of education or intelligence below the point of measurement can get a degree.

Maybe SA was not the main cause...just supplemental.
