New CPAP machine and bad results

Post by yarknit » Fri Jun 16, 2017 7:55 am

I previously had the Philips Respironics One machine. I now have the DreamStation Philips Respironics. My pressure is 12 and my mask is a size medium Resmed AirFit P10. The first 3 nights my AHI has been 8.9, 7.9 and 8 and I had periodic breathing at 4%. I feel like I am suffocating and exhaling feels different than with the old machine, despite no change in the pressure.
Not sure if this machine isn't working for me. Any suggestions?

What is the AHI made up of?
How much in each category?

Clear Airway Apnea Index?
Obstructive Apnea Index?
Hyponea Index?

Using ramp or not?

Which of the Dreamstations do you have? IF it can use an SD card, then you need to import the daily detailed data into a program called sleepyhead, and post the results on the forum. The Sleepyhead programs can be gotten free from the links in the first section of the main forum page.

I hear this issue if the previous CPAP wasn't using flex+ and their new CPAP is. Turn off C-flex+ (A-flex+) to see if the suffocating feel goes away. (It's called EPR for Resmed)

==========

the pressure may be different even if set the same

every machine has manufacturing tolerances
you may need slightly more pressure

show the data from sleepyhead reading the sd card
you may need less pressure or a different machine

did you set all the options to the same settings as before
they may be causing the difference you notice
A pressure of 12 should be the same regardless of what machine you use. It may be some other setting that is causing the problem. Ramp setting, exhale relief?

Somebody already pointed this out, but I'll re-iterate.

Check that all settings are identical. Not just the min and the max, but exhalation relief, humidity, etc.

Also, are you using a new mask? If so, use the old one, as the problem could be the mask rather than the machine.

Shouldn't a brilliant engineer know that?

XX and others... do you have to take your snarking into everyone's thread. Why not let the persons questions be answered by folks who do not have to use profanity and badgering in EVERY thread on the forum. For crying out loud enough is enough. Folks are asking for help not your arguing and stupid information , it has carried on way to long .. its in darn near every thread. Stop being children and act like grownups.
Jeez!!!!!!!

nan, you're 100% correct. Suggest you and others who are seeking assistance try the Apnea Board. You get skilled and respectful answers without all the personalities competing for their 10 seconds of fame. This forum has become a joke.

Hi. I have checked all the settings and changed the ones that were different but a I am still having trouble. I am now using a chin strap which is horrible, but I need to see if it helps. Last night my reading was 5. I haven't had high readings for over a year.
I have been using the AirFit10 size medium mask all along and used a new one last night.
Not sure how to attach a screenshot.
Obstructive 1.90
Hypopnea 2.62
Vibratory snore VS2 1.07
Pressure pulse 0.95
Pressure 12.0
AHI 4.88
I was generally 2 or below with the PR One
Is the ResMed a better machine? I do not have an auto machine and the ramp is off. I feel like I am suffocating if I have it on.

On the off chance... have you gained even a little weight recently? It can make a big difference.

No weight gain and I work out regularly and bike. I am very fit.

My pressure used to be at 13 but the ProResp group said that my original RX was for 8 and that they are only authorized to up it by 2. I changed the settings gradually until I got good results. Now they backed me down to 12.
I have asked them if I should be retested because I hardly slept the night of the sleep test.
