Oxygen Concentrator and DME Company Problem

Post by deedees5462 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 8:12 am

Hi, I have a problem with the dme company. They want a new O2 order from my doctor. The problem is I changed doctors do and did not know I needed a new O2 order. I've been going to this doctor for over a year and when I found out I needed a new order I had to get a po to go to see the doctor and he wants all this info before he will give me the o2 order. I have been bad about it and had a real awakening about this. I am no longer in denial, but the dme want the concentrator back because they don't have an order. It is going to take at least a few more weeks to get an order and I am afraid the dr will report that I have not been compliant and they will want it anyway. I just don't know what to do. I also have cough variant asthma and it makes it difficult to wear the cpap. Please don't criticize. I know I need to wear it and use the o2. I get hypoxic at about 5:00 am each day. Constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. I have resmed adapt s9. with humidifier, climate line and o2 concentrator at 3 liters.

When you changed doctors you should have gotten copies of your records. You can still request that your former doctor send your records to your new doctor...There may be a charge , but it could save you headaches.

Even if your former doctor is retired or deceased, you should be able to get it from his practice. Also, I would call the DME and tell them that your life is in immediate danger without the machine. That might get them moving.

I wanted to give back a concentrator to a DME and they wouldn't take it without a doctors orders. While they may want to scare you, I doubt they would actually force you for legal reasons.

Either plead with this doc to give you a temporary order or can you not go back to your old doc?

As for the records I would want copies in my hand - then placed into a folder I take with me to each Dr visit.

If all else fails can you not see another doc? If my doc treated me like that I wouldn't be going back - when you find a new doc just make sure to cancel any further appts at least 1 week before.

RAISE HELL!
I would suggest you go up the food chain until they call security, then call the MEDIA!
If you are a Medicare patient, all you need to do is call Medicare, and let them release the hounds.

I would think that the DME would be afraid of problems if you die or develop serious complications. Even if they are somehow immune from financial liability, they are not immune from bad publicity!

I had to change DMEs once and they made me take another breathing test. I thought it was stupid but I did keep my machine until I got one from another DME. I did get billed for the extra time though.

I turned my concentrator in ( against medical orders ) and they were not happy. The
reason I did this was I found it cheaper in the long run to buy my own concentrater
than pay the copays. But now I have a Medicare supliment that will pay the copays
but because I turned the concentrator in I would need to have a new sleep study before
I could get the concentrator back. It seems there has been a change in the Medicare
guide lines and if you are on cpap just having a home overnight oxygen test is not enough.
They now want to make shure tweeking your cpap titration won't be enough to end
your need for suplimental oxygen with your cpap.

They buy the desks in groups of 1000, then clone the people to sleep behind them. Jim

I just had to go to the doctor and have them stick the meter thing on my finger.
