Flecks in Humidifer Tank

Hi All,

Long time no post. I noticed light colored flecks with edges and pointy corners in my humidifier tank (Resmed S9 purchased Nov 2011) so I of course cleaned it, by hand, dismantling the tank as it is a pops-open dishwasher safe tank, disinfected it, buffed 'er to a shine inside, filled it with distilled water. The next morning... more flecks. Is this one of the failure modes of the Resmed S9, like some seal inside coming apart?

I replace the filter quite often, using CPAP.COM filters.

There is nothing inside that would come apart and cause that .... silicone gasket ... black foam rubber .... all the rest is hard plastic.
Might it be something in the distilled water ?

I wonder if flakes are coming off the plastic parts, due to age.
How old is the tank?

Where ya been, Max?

Floating on the top or lying on the bottom of the tank?
In any case, they won't be carried out of the HH tank with the water vapor......too heavy.
Maybe try filtering them out on some clean, white material and inspect them with a magnifying glass.

The tank is pretty new, less than a year. I got it here from cpap.com and it's an original new Resmed tank.

Hey Wulfman!

They lurk on the bottom, heavier than water.

What have I been up too? Well, I got me 3 stents to the circumflex artery of the heart about a year and a half ago. Sleep Apnea related? The cardiologist thinks its possible. They put me on cardiac drugs then my Lisinopril decided to try to kill me with angio adema. 2 trips to the ER, one by ambulance with lights and sirens tracked that down. I went through cardiac rehab and then off to one of those cheap gyms in strip malls... started getting nasty aggressive staph infections monthly in my hands, once on my knee (think necretizing attack, hole in your leg forming almost before your eyes). Even used clorox wipes and all sorts of sanitation. After visits to internal medicine, immunologist, dermatologist and other docs, they said it was probably the gym. I stopped going and so did the infections, so far (knock on wood).

Other than that, not much LOL

I looked at tonight's and they are actually little globs, not hard after all. Soooo... since I sanitize the tank really well, with chemicals, it could be :

1. something in the air that gets past the filter
2. something inside the main unit, like bacteria, mold, mildew, ...
3. something in the water (thanks, I didn't think of that, I use store brand Target distilled water)

I recently went for a cruise in Hawaii and this started after that. Maybe a new buddy came back with me from the islands and is renting space inside my Resmed.

The foam pads could be a place that could harbour something.
If you are a little mechanical you can do it yourself ... there is a thread that will help you.

No, not so much, Max. My sleep has been pretty good the last couple of years, so I've kind of lost interest. Once in a while, out of curiosity, I wear the Zeo, but mostly it serves as a nice clock for my nightstand. Most of my time, now, is taken up by maintenance, remodel and repair projects around the house that I can never seem to finish - which my wife likes to point out from time to time.
