Somehow I don't see rubbing the dog with a tampon will do much for the stink.
Any feminine hygiene product that DOES deal with it probably should never be used near genitals!

Update: I gave every possible washable part of my CPAP, mask, hose, tank a good wash in vinegar plus a fresh filter last night. The parts didn't smell, but the air coming out of the machine was still very skunky (our house is almost back to normal). Bleh!
Out of desperation, I remembered using aroma therapy by soaking a cotton pad and placing it near the air intake. I'm very sensitive to fragrances so I never wanted to try any of that stuff, but I remembered that a friend had gifted me some bitter orange essential oil on my birthday. I had not a clue what to do with it, though orange is one smell I really like. So I put some of the orange oil on a pad and put it near the inlet, and had a mostly pleasant night smelling orange instead of skunk. Tonight I may try some real vanilla or cinnamon until I'm certain eau de skunk is gone.
I wanted to blast the air for a while to try to flush out the smell, but the ResMed has anti-leak algorithms that prevent that. I found if I stopped the airflow with my hand at the end of the hose and vented it out in a sort of breathing pattern I could keep the air flowing at pressure, but not for long (it kept reading that as a large leak and shutting off). I could use the pre-heat cycle to flow a little air through, but not at much volume. This made it really hard to get the hose fully dry as I'd hoped.
Today my box came with a dozen new filters, a new hose, and a new DreamWear mask. I dont' want to use the new hose and mask if the smell is still in the machine, though.

I think if you turn off smart start that your machine should continue to blow until you turn it off.
It's what I have had to do to air out any machine....ResMed turn off smart start and Respironics turn off Auto Off.
Then the machine won't care about the big leak as far as turning itself off.
I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.
If you want to try the Eclipse mask and want a special promo code to get a little off the price...send me a private message.

Thanks, Pugsy. I'll try it if it's still stinky tonight.

Hubby oF a woman I used to work with left the door open for the dog to get back in the house and a skunk came in and moved into her closet. Instead of leaving a trail of food outside to get it out they shot the skunk while it was in the closet. It was horrible. I think I would have moved out for a while at least. I had a pet skunk when I was a child and we raise her on a bottle and she was never fixed and never sprayed. They only spray when they feel threatened.

Pugsy, turning off auto start worked. I let it run for several hours and it really helped. Thank you.
We keep getting "reinfected" because when the dog gets wet she starts to stink again, and it's been raining in biblical amounts here. We've been using so much peroxide on her that her black coat is turning brown in spots. And she wasn't even skunked--she's just picking it up from the leaves and grass outside. We don't expect to see the sun until Tuesday.

That's why my neighbor was washing his dog with the feminine hygiene products, said they worked better than anything he tried.
