No bluetooth or wireless capability; hmm, a travel machine?

Re: Another ResMed APAP brick just released
Yes, my original in home study and stay over night in a local hospital say I have central + obstructive. Since I never seen by a real sleep medicine doctor. After I gave up the bi-pap 7 days. I finally got an appo with an neurology/sleep medicine doctor at U of M on Tuesday. He looked the report and talked with me for an hour, he thinks the previous report data is not completed, and I probably only have obstructive apnea according to my jaw structure. So he ordered another sleep study that I am going to take in Oct. This time I want to do my homework before I go in and get the machine/mask. I know nothing last time, just took what DME gave to me, and stay up every night for 7 days, finally gave it up, and decided to see the u of m doctor to make sure.

Re: Another ResMed APAP brick just released
Been a while since I've posted. I just got an email about the Airstart APAP from cpap.com.
I figured there had to be a catch.
Brick machines should be discontinued. A machine without data takes power out of the hands of the user. You might as well give insulin shots to a diabetic, but tell them a nurse has to give them every shot, every time.
If this had been marketed as a travel machine for people who are secure in their settings, that's one thing... But to foist this on beginners? ResMed... I expect better from you. And you know I do.
Foolish medical establishment. This frosts me no end.
I agree whole-heartedly with Pugsy.

er, actually, a machine without data takes power away from everybody.DreamDiver wrote:A machine without data takes power out of the hands of the user. You might as well give insulin shots to a diabetic, but tell them a nurse has to give them every shot, every time.
you might as well give insulin shots to a diabetic, without ever checking their glucose levels.

Are you in the United States or some other part of the world?mibbim wrote:So he ordered another sleep study that I am going to take in Oct. This time I want to do my homework before I go in and get the machine/mask.
The reason I ask is that the procedure for sleep studies and getting a machine can be different in other parts of the world and there's no sense in us telling you how it is done in the US if you aren't in the US.
I think that finding the right mask is probably the most difficult part of this therapy.
I think it is good that you are seeing a sleep specialist especially since there is a question about centrals or not.
The machine that is used to treat centrals presents some special challenges and there's no sense in adding more complicating factors into the mix unless we have no other choice.
Let's see exactly what type of apnea events you are having before worrying about which machine.
Now the mask..that's going to be important even for just the titration sleep study where they figure out what pressures you are going to need. Remember that no matter what problems you might have with either the mask or machine there are no new problems....someone somewhere has had the same problems as you and they got the problems sorted out and were able to make cpap therapy a success.
When you have time please register here at the forum (and log in each time you post) so that we can follow your posts more easily. Right now we have to try to remember what you said in the past and have no way at all to go back and see if our memory is correct or not.
Then once you get your equipment to use at home add the equipment to your profile like I have mine.
It makes helping you so much easier and faster.

Re: Another ResMed APAP brick just released
Sorry, I have registered now without any equip yet. I am in Michigan. The mask is totally a key for me to use/or not to use a machine. The doctor says the smaller mask (area) sealing better than the one needs to cover big area. So the nasal pillows mask sealing better than a full face one. In the first sleep study, they never let me try a nasal pillow one but full face. But I tried the amara small, the strap and pressure bothered me too much. So will see if I can try the nasal pillow with my cervical collar (my mouth will open if I sleep on my back) in the lab first next time. I will take note at least what kind of machine or mask I shouldn't get from the posting here.

Like I said, I will put the ResMed apap airstart to my "No" list. Just try to correct all the info before I am getting one.

Re: Another ResMed APAP brick just released
Yup. Good idea to double check whatever they try to give you. Many DMEs are interested in "compliance data only" and will provide a "brick" if you aren't careful.mibbim wrote:Like I said, I will put the ResMed apap airstart to my "No" list. Just try to correct all the info before I am getting one.

Re: Another ResMed APAP brick just released
You might review the Rx information on cpap.com for some guidance on how to specify what you want from the doc. The format they now use has changed, but they used to provide a "style guide" for an Rx from your doc. What I did to support my wishes was to write my on Rx with complete specs for a specific machine, mask, etc. as well as pressure settings (with the caveat that the machine be fully data capable); printed it out and gave it to my doc and asked if he would have difficulty in issuing the Rx as written. The short answer: he agreed, and it was issued as written. If you need specific guidance, I am confident there are several here who can help with the specifics better than I.mibbim wrote:Like I said, I will put the ResMed apap airstart to my "No" list.
