Lansinoh has been used by forum members (and others) for YEARS with no ill effects.
The ONLY downside is that it is an animal product,
and some extremists may be opposed to it for philosophical reasons alone..

Thanks for the reassurance concerning possible ill effects.chunkyfrog wrote:Lansinoh has been used by forum members (and others) for YEARS with no ill effects.

I think I'm OK with that. They just sheer the sheep to get it, not slaughter the young ones like for lamb chops.
BTW, though I remain an omnivore, I do respect the choices of those who would prefer not to eat meat or use animal products.

I do too, but some refuse to use ANY animal product--even that most kindly taken.
Sheep NEED shearing--hot weather, insects, etc.

Re: Dreamwear Pain in the nose!
I use the dreamwear nasal mask too and had similar issues for the first month or so. Got a little red and sore for a while - I found using a tiny amount of vaseline helped until it cleared up and now dont have any more issues.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Vaseline before or after taking off the Dreamwear? Did it come into contact with the silicone?sleepybrit wrote:I use the dreamwear nasal mask too and had similar issues for the first month or so. The reason I went with the suggestion of Lansinoh is that in the back of my mind I had the perennial admonishment not to use Vaseline with a latex prophylactic * since it might cause the latex to degrade, leading to unwished-for consequences.
Now, the Dreamwear nosepiece is silicone, not latex AFAIK, so I was unsure of what effects those combinations (silicone+vaseline or silicone+lanolin) might have, which is why I asked.

Re: Dreamwear Pain in the nose!
Some thin oils degrade RUBBER. (Mineral oil, tea tree oil, etc.)
Cpap masks were once made with rubber--many years ago.
I wonder . . .
If anybody wants to test vaseline with an OLD cushion,
there is also the issue of LIPID PNEUMONIA.
Maybe just nice for softening my gnarly feet.

Re: Dreamwear Pain in the nose!
Use the Lansinoh liberally during the day and just a dab during the night.
It won't hurt the silicone and won't hurt you.
Vasoline is petroleum based and I have read that it isn't good for silicone and there's a small risk of lipid pneumonia.
So I avoid it unless emergency use only and then very brief when there is no other choice.
Eventually your nose will get used to the mask pushing on that area of your nose but it should never ever cause severe pain, abrasions, blisters or open sores.
At most these masks should only cause a minor discomfort similar to maybe a small bruise. Remember this area is virgin territory and not used to having anything touch it.
If you have severe pain, blisters, abrasions or open sores then the mask is either fitted improperly (most common error is too tight) or wrong size or simply the wrong type of mask for a person's particular facial features.
If it is minor tenderness...it will fade with time and the Lansinoh will help it fade quicker...anything else means there is something wrong.

Re: Dreamwear Pain in the nose!
DreamWear. Used for the first time last night. Thought it leaked. Kept hearing and feeling air. Book says air is supposed to come from nose cushion and where mask hooks to hose. Should have read book first. Did not sleep well hearing all this. BUT looked at my profile on res-med and found the leak score was 19. This was the best I have done since starting this cpap about 3 weeks ago. Will not worry about this tonight, and hopefully will get a full nights rest. Have not slept through the night since this all started. Think it was more comfortable than other masks. Leaves no marks, and if you have a quick release you can get it off fast when you get up during the night.
