How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
I have a question, can't recall it being asked, but I'm sure it has.
Anyway I want to keep the Dreamwear, but I would like to try another "minimal" type mask, see if I like it better. Is it possible to do that? Nobody mentioned this concept. I am guessing what I would have to do is give up this one (before one month) then try another. What I want is something like a side to side comparison.
Or do I have to buy the mask and then return one.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
I imagine it depends on your DME and insurance. My DME did not make me return the first mask when giving me the second mask. I don't believe they can reuse your mask. Just ask them, you have nothing to lose.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
Are you talking about with your DME or Cpap.com?
If you are talking about DME, they are all different. When I went back in within the first 30 days to try a different mask, they said I had to return the first one first. I thought about it and left. I knew I had one I could use if I had to but if I turned it back, I didn't know if I could use the new one. So I ended up buying my second one on my own.

You can try as many as you like from Cpap.com x 30 days, but they ask a small fee for insurance purposes if you do it... give them a call and you can ask about it.

it all depends on where you're getting your masks.jonny515 wrote:I have a question, can't recall it being asked, but I'm sure it has.

When I first started we had a place here where we could buy and sell. It was really nice and I miss it.

well, then, let me rephrase: it all depends on the policies of the place you're getting your masks from, and policies vary from place to place.jonny515 wrote:A DME.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
I really got lucky on the DME front, and when I was struggling to find a mask that worked when I first started, my DME let me try 3 different masks for one copay and keep all three. I still ended up buying two more on CPAP.com myself, and then eventually getting the Dreamwear when it came out and I was due to buy a new mask through insurance. So I've now tried 6 different masks.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
My DME let me take my first mask, which the guy talked me into, and never even mentioned the 30 days I had to decide if it was the mask for me...it wasn't. The next worker told me they have loaner masks, she was much nicer and more informative, so at one point I had 3 masks till I finally settled on one within the 30 days. So, I would ask about loaner masks. In fact, they didn't have a loaner P10 nasal, so the woman opened up a new one and said if I liked it then it would end up being mine, and if I didn't it would end up being the loaner. Good luck! Don't be afraid to ask because I found out quick that some staff were more helpful than others.jonny515 wrote:A DME.

I'm going to ask. This is exactly what I'd like to do. I have Dreamware which seems much more comfortable than the masks i used for the Desensitization or titration. But I would like to try the P10 and nano FX Swift.
The DME actually seems decent so far...

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
I was fortunate in that the sleep clinic sent the nasal pillow mask they used on me home with me. Then, when I was first equipped by my DME, I chose a FFM that has served me well. Three months in, with my insurance, I was eligible for another mask. So I chose a Wisp, which covers only the nose. My DME has a thirty-day return policy. Of all of them so far, the FFM has worked best for me. YMMV.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
My early DME's were not helpful, (insert obscenity) so I tried a few on cpap.com.
I kept the winners, and eventually let the useless DME/insurance sit and wonder where I went.

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
Every so many weeks, I can get a new mask. At that time, I chose to get a Dreamwear mask instead of the Mist Mask I have. I didn't manage my time well and couldn't return it, but since my other mask was just fine, I continued to use it.
now I have the Dreamwear and the mask that fits but pushes on my front teeth. I will try another mask when I am able to get a new mask

Re: How do you try another mask? (while keeping the first)
I'm making an appt. but the rules are very limiting. I can't keep two masks at once unless I buy one of them. (And if I bought another one sure is not going to be from them they charge double cpap.com). Anyway, I can get another one, but I must swap. If I swap and want to swap again, I must wait 3 months. I'm making an appt, and try out something else but may end up keeping the Dreamwear.
