Re: cleaning heated air hose
In most cases worry will kill you long before the things you worry about.
Most cases. If only it were easier to tell which worries are truly justified!
Naturally, everyone is quite sure they are right, and everyone else is wrong.
Nothing wrong with asking--just expect a LOT of different answers.

Re: cleaning heated air hose
Thanks for all the replies. I was mainly concerned about getting the electrical connections wet.
As far as the way I cleaned my non-heated air hose (washing with mild soap and letting it sit in a water- vinegar solution) that was the written instructions I got with my original CPAP. And to those who think that germs can't infect your mask and tubes from the air you exhale should tell surgeons so they can save money by not buying face masks. And besides a warm moist enviroment is perfect for something bad to grow. And even if I'm wrong I'd rather be safe than sorry. Again, thanks for all the replies.

Re: cleaning heated air hose
The air flows in to your mask one way only...your exhale goes out the exhaust vents in your mask. Exhaled air cannot go back into your hose...the force of air will not allow it.. The germs affecting your mask are your own...they won't hurt you......Other people's germs may affect you, that's why surgeons wear masks.ohligerj wrote:Thanks for all the replies. That's a totally bogus and absurd argument and comparison.ohligerj wrote:Thanks for all the replies. I was mainly concerned about getting the electrical connections wet.

I presume you don't share your own masks at home with someone else.
If you did and that person had some contagious disease, you might have a point.
But, hospital masks used for surgery (oxygen masks) are restricted by law for "single use only" and are intended to be disposable.
Like I said.......do what YOU feel comfortable with.

I've posted a couple of links that should help. I clean mine weekly.

Thanks Hardav04 for finding the official resmed user guide. It says to wash my heated tubing in warm water with mild detergent and allow it to completely dry.And that's exactly what I'm going to do.
I don't understand why some of you guys would not do this simple cleaning of your Cpap as the manufacturer suggests. Why would you want to breathe thru a dirty machine every night for the rest of your life?

I hear you should change the air in your tires every 10,000 miles

I have no idea where you keep coming up with these absurd comments.ohligerj wrote:Thanks Hardav04 for finding the official resmed user guide. It says to wash my heated tubing in warm water with mild detergent and allow it to completely dry.And that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I clean my intake filters twice a month and there's absolutely nothing "dirty" about my machines.
I have more important things to do with my time than to clean something that doesn't need to be cleaned......like "nothing".
Maybe YOU need to clean everything hourly during the night.........
You just never know, there MAY be "something" that has gotten in it........like the air from your dwelling you're breathing all of the rest of the time when you're not hooked to the machine. But, if you clean/change your filters, that's not a problem either.

Re: cleaning heated air hose
Never heard of earwigs. My first thought was as it sounds, a wig for your ears. I have tubes in my ears and even if i didn't it would freak me out if I actually had any bugs in my ears.
Re: cleaning heated air hose
I guess you guys never change the oil in your car ? I mean it runs thru a filter so it should never get dirty. Just change your filter every so often. I don't think resmed would tell you to clean your CPAP just to give a guy a job writing it in the user guide.

It's more than likely written by their LAWYERS.ohligerj wrote:I guess you guys never change the oil in your car ? I mean it runs thru a filter so it should never get dirty. Just like the little fine print about if you get water in your machine and it damages it, the warranty is null and void.
And, I have always faithfully changed the oil in my vehicles......and I use a "super lubricant" additive in them, too.

Re: cleaning heated air hose
My hose fits nicely onto my bathroom faucet so I attach it and run warm, not hot, water through the hose for 10 minutes. Then I hang it to dry.
