Need help on stoping my leaks

Post by Ricochet » Wed Nov 04, 2015 7:07 pm

I just dont get it. I'm told that if I tighten my mask till i get lines in my face its to tight. But even when I do I still get some leaks. Its fine till my pressures get high ( around 11 cm ) and then the leaks start till the pressure goes back down. Could it be the wrong size mask?

I have the f10 full face by resmed size large.

Have you studied ResMed's video instructions and tips for fitting and adjusting your mask? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html

Sounds like you have the mask too tight. This type of mask is designed to inflate and "float" gently on your face.

Also, here is something I put together - a compilation of members' tips -->
To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)
- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.
- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.
- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.
That mask you are using is a recent design and is excellent. I would work with it for some time before trying other masks.

You should consider using some type of liner. You can look at either PadACheek or RemZZZ's, They solve issues with leaks and also marks on your face.

I believe that these should be required, especially for some one new.

I did put a reszzzz linner on it last night I wonder if that might be the problem? My air leak went from 18 to 40 in one night.

These masks work by creating an air cushion that molds to your face. So the tighter you cinch it, the less inflation in the cushion and the MORE leaks.

Try this:
1. Loosen all the straps on your mask.
2. Lie down in your bed on your back, and put the mask against your face with the straps very loose.
3. Turn the machine on to your highest pressure (if you don't have a "mask fit" feature, adjust it to straight CPAP at 11 cm, no ramp for the fitting).
4. Using one hand to hold the mask LIGHTLY against your face, use the other hand to tighten the straps just barely enough to stop any leaks. Try to tighten the bottom straps first, and BARELY tighten the top straps so there is plenty of air in the cushion to mold around your nose without pressure. If your mask has an adjustment at the forehead, try to make it as far out from your face as possible. In other words, the mask should fit like this \{ against your face, not }\
5. Now move around in bed into your normal sleeping position and adjust the straps ever so slightly to manage leaks. The mask should feel like it's floating on your face, not digging into the flesh.

A good mask liner (I like Padacheek) can reduce some of the leaking. If these suggestions don't work, it may be that your mask is not properly sized for you or for your face--maybe you need to explore a different mask. Talk to your DME.

A leak of 18 with your machine/mask is not a problem
