3 yo daughter has sleep apnea

Post by candlegirl76 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 2:55 am

Wow, popped on to check on this thread and wow! thanks for the useful comments and oh.my.word to the crazy stuff!! Sleepynina, I'm pretty sure I've had sleep apnea all my life or at least since I was in my teens (just diagnosed in March) so it made me hyper aware of my daughter's (and son's, but not as much) snoring, sweating while sleeping, fighting sleep even when exhausted, falling asleep if she stopped moving for a few minutes (she rarely stops moving), etc. I mentioned this concern at the twins 3 yr checkup and their pedi immediately referred them to get a sleep study. From there, my son is on a watch and see basis (under 1.5 AHI) and my daughter is needing treatment. They both did great with all the wires. The tech said they were his youngest patients and that they did better than some of the adults he sees. They had separate appointments because I needed to stay with them for the test. If you think your child may have apnea please get it checked out. I'm so glad I know my daughter has it and she doesn't have to be exhausted and zombie-like most of her life like I WAS!!

JUST CURIOUS HOW YOUR DAUGHTER IS DOING DID SHE GET THE TONSILECTOMY? MY 9 YEAR OLD SON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SLEEP APNEA AND IS SCHEDULED TO GET HIS TONSILS REMOVED IN JANUARY..HE IS USING A CPAP MACHINE UNTIL THEN AND IT IS VERY HARD GETTING HIM ADJUSTED TO IT...I AM NERVOUS FOR HIM TO GET THE SURGERY AS IVE BEEN TOLD IT IS MORE RISKY FOR A PERSON WITH SLEEP APNEA TO BE PUT UNDER ANESTHESIA. BUT THE CURE RATE IS BETWEEN 80-90% AFTER THE SURGERY SO WERE GOING TO DO IT...

Text in all caps give me a headache. All the letters have a lower case.
Please use it.

Every post by this last poster are in all caps.
How does that happen?
It is so hard to read.
I want to be sympathetic, but my head hurts.
It also looks angry.

Julie,

She explained she uses Capital Letters at work and it is hard switching back and forth.

Answer: tonsillectomy has been known to help a child with apnea--as long as the blockage is in that area.
Adults are often offered surgery that will do little or no good.
Now I am going to go take an Ibuprofen.
