Re: This is driving me nuts
Ok so I am on the sleep lab's wait list and I still have my original appointment for October 15th. Also I will need to talk a doctor about prescribing something to help me sleep for the study (I will talk to my neurologist because I have to see him July 31st anyway).

Re: This is driving me nuts
Well I talked to my neurologist yesterday and he said I should not take any type of sleep aid for my sleep study. The DME I will going to for my CPAP don't allow mask exchanges and the fitting and stuff should done at the sleep study if I don't like the mask I have either pay out of pocket or deal with it, is that normal?
Re: This is driving me nuts
No, that's not "normal" but they get to make their own rules if they want.pettyfan45 wrote:The DME I will going to for my CPAP don't allow mask exchanges and the fitting and stuff should done at the sleep study if I don't like the mask I have either pay out of pocket or deal with it, is that normal?
In reality the mask manufacturers offer a 30 day per mask return policy with all their masks but to use the policy the DME has to do some extra paperwork and some DMEs just won't do it or maybe they tell you that you are allowed 1 swap within the first 30 days. They don't have to go by what the mask manufacturers offer if they don't want to.
Too bad you aren't closer to me...my DME allows 60 days and within that 60 days I can swap out for as many masks as I want to try and they don't limit that policy to just newbies...I get it too after 6 years.
I do have to give back the unwanted mask to get another one without paying for it.
Insurance only allows 1 mask per the "allowance period" which for my insurance is 6 months but every 6 months I could try half a dozen masks if I wanted to by using the 60 day swapping period.
You might check around to see if any other DMEs in your area will work with your insurance (did you say it was Medicaid) because someone else might have a more lenient mask swapping policy.
That said there are ways to get other masks paying for them ourselves that won't break the bank if you know what you want and where to look.

Re: This is driving me nuts
This is odd I talked to one of the DMEs here in town and while they do have a mask exchange policy, they told that insurance doesn't cover auto machines and to get one would get $200 out of pocket (but the first one I talked said in the email I could get one as long as "the sleep study indicates you need an Auto CPAP" I could get one). They also only sell Resperoics stuff (I would rather go somewhere with options at least to start)

You just need a doctor to sign a prescription for APAP.

Re: This is driving me nuts
Is the thing about having to pay $200 about for an Auto CPAP normal or do I need ask Missouri Medicaid? The Choker wrote:No.pettyfan45 wrote: "the sleep study indicates you need an Auto CPAP"

Re: This is driving me nuts
Ask Medicaid if DMEs are allowed to charge the upcharge for the APAP. Medicaid isn't like other insurances... now if it was Medicare then the answer is no, not without advanced beneficiary notice and even then iffy.pettyfan45 wrote:Is the thing about having to pay $200 about for an Auto CPAP normal or do I need ask Missouri Medicaid?
I would check to see if there are other DMEs in your area that work with Medicaid and see what they would offer. Some will supply APAPs as a standard item...others will want to give you the bottom of the barrel cheapest machine so they make the most money no matter what the insurance coverage.
Or....ask the doctor to write the RX with a pressure range...like 6 minimum and 10 maximum...then the DME HAS to follow the letter of the script and supply APAP and can't substitute for something else.

uh... well, if you WANT to take all of them, you'll probably not wake up during the test, however there are side effects:pettyfan45 wrote:So I got the prescription for Ambien. sourceThe recommended daily dose of Ambien is 10 mg, once a day before bed. At 40 times that recommended dose, 400 mg, cases of non-fatal overdose have been reported. However, as little at 70 mg of Ambien at once can cause illness, including feelings of nausea, headache, and muscle pain. Still, it takes a whopping 2000 mg of Ambien to be fatal, which is 200 times higher than the normal dose. It would be very difficult to obtain enough Ambien to be fatal.
here's a thought... READ THE FRICKIN BOTTLE THEY CAME IN.
this IS a joke, right?

Six months supply. I'm surprised a doctor would give a six-month prescription. But I have never taken sleeping medicine.pettyfan45 wrote: I got the prescription for Ambien. It is 30 pills with 5 refills

Read the bottle for dosage. Me, I'd just take it the night of the study. Maybe one other night several days before the study to get familiar with the effects.pettyfan45 wrote:So I got the prescription for Ambien. As for taking it on a regular basis, I'd avoid that if possible. Some people do need a sleep aid, but it's better if you can get by without it.
