CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
My mask did not come with a manual, but I am experiencing more pressure than is comfortable when exhaling so that could be an issue.

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Try the Respironics web site or google and if you don't find it, just try it! Few minutes on each setting to get a sense of it.
Good luck
Good luck

if it's a respironics mask, it should have a number molded into it somewhere.

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Well it looks like the System One Resistance setting was not adjusted correctly. I am now having a much better time. I am going to try ramping from 4 to 6 cm over 45 minutes with aflex off (though even when on at 6 cm it is much more tolerable!)
Thank you guys very much I would not have gotten this far without you, I finally feel like I actually have a chance!

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Just be aware that if you want to revisit AFlex that you must be using at least a minimum of 6 cm pressure for it to be enabled. So if using ramp from 4 to 6 even if AFlex was turned on it wouldn't kick in until you reached the 6 cm point.

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
New problem, after about 10 minute it started increasing airflow about halfway through my exhale every time for about 1 second. This made it impossible to fall asleep.

Many just plain turn ramp off and don't deal with it.

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Some people who have trouble in the beginning with the feel of the mask and the pressure have reported doing something that helped them adjust. This was taking the machine to their favorite sofa or chair and using the CPAP for 30 minutes or so while they sat reading or watching TV. Just an idea for you.Nardella wrote:New problem, after about 10 minute it started increasing airflow about halfway through my exhale every time for about 1 second. I do agree with Krelvin that the ramp should be turned off. 4 cm is a very low pressure. For me, anything below 7 and I feel like I am suffocating.
Do continue with your good persistence and resolve.

Re: CPAP pressure and airflow timing
Sorry to ear about last night Nardella,Nardella wrote: I am going to try ramping from 4 to 6 cm over 45 minutes with aflex off (though even when on at 6 cm it is much more tolerable!)
Did that happen DURING the machine was in Ramp mode (less than 45 min after putting your mask on)?
If that's the case the only explanation I can see (if your A-Flex still off) is leak... other than that I have no idea. Personally I would follow (try) Krevlin and turn off Ramp completely.
I would aslo try ChicagoGranny's advise like watching TV with mask on to get a better feeling of the mask pressure. I would make sure to turn off the Ramp during that time.
At what pressure setting are you right now (EPAP min and EPAP max)?
