I've entered a new chapter it seems.

Post by Noctuary » Mon May 04, 2015 5:08 am

Past four days I can't get more than 5 hours sleep, if that. Today I woke up after four hours; can't fall back asleep. Nothing has changed as far as anything I'm doing.

I'm wide awake but so tired.

Are you using SH to see what might be happening?

I went through a period of about six weeks where I woke after 4 to 5 hours and could not get back to sleep. Eventually that stopped, and I returned to my normal pattern. I was never sure exactly why, I finally laid it off on some stress/worry.

Got any new stressors in your life?

My god I hope this doesn't go on for weeks. Nothing new as far as stress goes.

I'm going to try a double dose of Provigil; maybe it will work this time.

I am confused, why would you do that? (provigil)

check for changes in your diet that are causing the change
check for stress and anxiety in your life

FWIW-- After 6 months of therapy, I need 6 1/2 - 7 hours of sleep each night.

I started eating potatoes everyday. My whole life has been stress and anxiety; but the last 15 months of bad sleep have sent me to the edge.

I feel like I can't win this. Its either fatigue or sleepiness.

OK, since you mentioned in your first post that you were wide awake, I didn't make the connection, since Provigil is usually to promote wakefulness.

Can you look at your Sleepyhead data and see if there is anything happening about the time you are waking up? I am thinking of perhaps a rapid increase in pressure or a sudden major leak, anything that could explain your waking up like that.

Your post from another thread:

Noctuary, your sleepyhead results posted in your other thread look fairly decent. I suggest you Google "sleep hygiene" and work hard at implementing it. I think you'll find it helpful.

Noctuary,

Since you are having some real problems with "wake up too early and can't get back to sleep" insomnia problems, it's worth looking at your overall sleep hygiene.

And one thing that pops out right away is that your sleep schedule gets seriously messed up every Friday/Saturday night.

It may help to establish a regular bedtime and a regular wake up time for all seven days during the week. Yeah, I know it's a pain in the rear to not stay up when you want to and sleep in when you wish. But regular wake up and bedtimes can be a very useful tool for managing the insomnia.

As it turns out, I did fall asleep again; the last few hours I've slept on and off. I'll see what sleepyhead says.
The last time you used your ResMed AutoSet...
was last night (on Sunday, May 03, 2015)
You had an AHI of 3.89, which is considered technically "treated"
You machine was on for 10 hours, 17 minutes and 4 seconds.
You had a small but acceptable amount of major mask leakage.
Your pressure was under 13.4691cmH2O for 95% of the time.

Its so discouraging. I don't have major leaks; so why am I still tired? Is it because of broken sleep? Before the sudden onset of this "disease" I would often wake up after a few hours and go back to sleep; I didn't feel bad then. I'm compliant, I use my machine regularly; but in what is now almost a year of therapy I've only really felt good a handful of times.
