Why does my blood pressure go up

Post by truffing1 » Mon Mar 30, 2015 3:25 pm

Why does my blood pressure go up after my doctor ups my pressure? I don't understand this one. I thought CPAP would lower blood pressure.

Since you've given us practically no information, it's impossible to come up with any possibilities.
Your profile doesn't say what equipment you're using or what pressures or settings you're talking about.
It's like saying.......my car's gas mileage isn't as good as it used to be......what's up with that?

Sorry, I'm using the auto S9. I recently (last week) had the machine upgraded to an APAP. The pressure is 7 to 15 now.

The old pressure was a 7. The machine was set to CPAP mode.

And your before and after readings were what?

Who measured your blood pressure each time? How many BP readings were taken before the CPAP change and how many were taken after the CPAP change? What time of day were the readings taken?

OK. Now we're getting somewhere.
MAYBE........the pressure changes during the night are stressing your cardiovascular system.......bumping you out of your much-needed sleep stages.
Are you monitoring your therapy with software? (like Sleepyhead or ResScan?)
If not, I'd suggest you do that. That's a fairly wide range of pressures and depending on your breathing characteristics, you could be spending the whole night with changing pressures.

Granny's right to ask about when you take your BP, and when it gets checked otherwise. It's certainly likely to be lower very first thing in the a.m. (and can then change many times in a day depending on many factors), but I hope you're not confusing it with the 'pressure' settings on c- or apap... two totally different things.

Blood Pressure changes according to your bodys need. It is related to your hearts pumping ability and rate along with your blood volume. Lots of things contribute to your blood pressure and you need to look at trends to determine if it is something that needs to be addressed.

Prior to the pressure and machine mode change I had a blood pressure of 130/80. Since the change I'm in the upper 150 over upper 90. Wondering if I should stop using the machine until I talk with specialists.

Doesn't make sense... have you thought hard about what else might be different in your life? Even something as nutty as a different brand of usual food but with more sodium (I'm reaching, but trying to make a point).

And you haven't really answered about when your BP's taken, by whom, etc. etc.

I'll give it another whirl tonight. I'll talk to the specialist tomorrow and see what she thinks. I will say that this setting had me more alert and rested them the last setting.

That's understandable........because you were (probably) getting more "air" (and oxygen) blowing into your airway.
If you're not, you need to get the software and look to see what is happening during the night.
Was last night the first night on the range of pressures?
What method did you use to determine that your blood pressure was "higher"? And, how much higher?

Totally agree as it take several readings over a period of days to see if there is a trend towards high blood pressure. And no, you're not reaching Julie about high salt causing high blood pressure. That could definitely be an issue.

Stress can also make a huge difference. When dad started fooling around with the banking my stable blood pressure went to 150 over 110.

You can still have higher blood pressure with "feeling alert and rested"......it's called adrenalin.
But, there's too much about this story we don't know.
